Meet Jenny Kenyon: Jeweler

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Kenyon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am an entrepreneur at heart. I always have been.  When the pandemic hit in March, I had been working my property management and cleaning company about 60 hours a week. Suddenly, just like everyone else, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands. I had not made any pieces for well over a year. I had many many ideas and created a few pieces here and there, but nothing serious. I didn’t really even have my jewellery studio set up to work properly.  So when I found myself in quarantine, I began dreaming of having my studio set up and being able to work during that time. I had been reading one of my favourite books – “Women Who Run With the Wolves”, and a specific chapter focused on letting our creative wells dry up and how that has such a huge impact on our lives. The author talked about how letting our river creative rivers dry up wreaks havoc on our lives. I wanted to rewild my creative river because it had completely dried up – and that is what inspired my new name River Wilding. I think like many people during this time we did a lot of self reflection and I realised I did not want to spend all my time working and not creating. I wanted to figure out a way that I could work from home, home school my daughter, still run my property management business and bring joy to people. So I set out to rebrand my jewelery business and begin my journey of working that business 100% from my home studio. I believe that during these times with such job uncertainty and so much uncertainty in general around the world a lot of people are trying to figure out ways to be able to work from home. This is a Passion I’ve always had but I’ve always had to work a full time job outside of my jewelery business and so I just really wanted to go for it.  I wanted to make the transition from working completely outside of the home to being able to work and generate an income completely from my jewelery business. Entrepreneurship isn’t always easy. It is constant hard work. But it’s mine – it’s my heart out in the world, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey has had alot of starts and stops. It hasn’t always been easy! Life certainly has a way of taking us down roads we never would have expected, and I’m down for the ride. I used to get anxious when life’s twists and turns happened – but something I’ve learned is to embrace that. It’s shaping and molding me into the woman I am – and I will always be a creative soul. So those changes will eventually make their way into my work, and I want the most from all of that!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start by a trip to Mt Princeton hot springs! A cabin for a few days with spa services and alot of soaking. Maybe hit the road to Salida for shopping and then on to some sites. This past summer we camped at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. That was so breathtaking so we would need to go there. I’m a sucker for thrift shops, and rock shops and coffee shops, so we would have to hit all those along the way.
