We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Miguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, how does your business help the community?
The Colorado Women’s Center helps the community by focusing on women’s self-esteem and female empowerment! We help women to become empowered through therapy and mental health, because we believe that once a woman learns to truly believe in herself, there is nothing that can stop her RISE!

What should our readers know about your business?
Colorado Women’s Center is a dream come true! I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would be so fortunate to give back in the way that I am now able. I started the Center with the vision of empowering women. It started with one tiny room of a private practice and has grown into 5 locations! We now have locations in Boulder, Denver, Fort Collins, Broomfield and Longmont. In each location we have bold colors throughout, which represents the power of the female voice–Because we believe that women are not just meant to be seen. We also have black and white photos on the walls of the women who have inspired us most; Amelia Earhart, Frida Kahlo, Rosa Parks, Malala Yousafzai and Oprah Winfrey In addition our therapy rooms are named after Maya Angelou, Michelle Obama, RBG, Princess Diana, Brene Brown and Laverne Cox. These women are on our walls because each one of them has found the courage and strength to break free from limitations, express their truth, and find the courage to live their lives fully. Some endured immense suffering, some endured ridicule, and some endured their own self-doubt. But, all of them managed to find their voice and their purpose, and as a result, made it possible for others to do the same. These women remind us everyday to say “No” when needed. To say “Yes” when scared. To not be a victim. To stand up for our worth. And, to discover our value. This is the message that we help every single client who walks through our doors discover. There are many lessons that were learned along the way. Perhaps the biggest was learning that reaching success and being a champion is a lonely endeavor. In order to push yourself to your fullest potential, most of your work happens behind the scenes. There is so much hard work that goes unnoticed. Whether it involves an athlete doing drills alone for hours each day, or a new mother battling anxiety and an inner critic, or a CEO dealing with constant change, demands, hopes, and fears… most of the grit is not validated. Therefore, the things that challenge us most, we often deal with alone. However, those are the very things that define our sucess.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many places in the Denver/Boulder area it’s hard to choose. I think an ideal day would be: – An early morning hike at Mount Sanitas in Boulder. – Coffee at Ozo’s on Pearl St. in Boulder – Shopping on Pearl St. – Lunch at Flower Child in Boulder – Hang out in Confluence Park in Denver – Happy Hour at The Crawford Hotel in Union Station in Denver – Dinner at Rioja in Larimer Square, Denver Next day…. – Breakfast at Snooze in Denver – Drive to Winter Park for Skiing!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Brené Brown. The Colorado Women’s Center would not be here if it weren’t for Brené Brown’s teachings on vulnerability and owning your story.
