We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Mauro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The amount of time each aspect of production takes. We spend a decent amount of time educating clients on the logistics of the production process, from pre-production to the day-of-the-shoot through post-production and reviews. There are many little decisions in each phase that clients don’t realize we need to make until we’re guiding them through it. The process can be overwhelming especially if you haven’t completed a video project before whereas we’ve done it hundreds of times. When we wrap a project, the reward is clients thanking us for bringing their vision to life. They often say they did not understand what the process involved. We’re grateful to provide a true “behind the scenes” experience while acting as teachers and creators simultaneously.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have been documenting and telling stories for as long as I can remember. Pixel Lustre was born out of my desire to take pieces of my past experience — the soul of nonprofits, the fast-paced corporate world, the creativity of freelancers and small business and the heart of historical family documentaries — and put them into a new endeavor. I love stories. I love creating. I love business. Pixel Lustre is about creating thoughtful, meaningful media that embodies and emanates light. That translates into culture videos, marketing messages, training videos or family documentaries and more. From first contact and planning to completion of the project, we want to seamlessly integrate into your organization, team or family and create the content you need like we’ve always been there. It’s really a we sport. We want to represent you in the best light. Our core values are important to us and exist with intention because our medium’s reach is far. Almost every person carries a device with them or has access to one, and it is important we are aware of its impact. Producing content within so many different industries is exciting. We have the privilege of learning about different subject matter in a deeper way, and the client gets a skilled team that’s fully engaged.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Once it’s safe again, there’s so much we can do. One of my first video shoots was at Union Station, so my visitors would arrive in style by train to this landmark treasure. Hydrating constantly, we’d start with the best breakfast in the Mile High City: Chilaquiles made by my wife at home in our garden. Then we’d wind downtown through historic Denver neighborhoods via Colfax to stop at Nuggs Ice Cream for a taste of our eclectic city. Next, we’d head to North Denver to pick up a meatball sandwich at Lechuga’s on Tejon before parking downtown for our day game at Coors Field (even if the Rockies keep trading our best players). We’d dance it out at Tracks or X Bar or chill at PS lounge after the game. Getting a fresh start at the Denver Botanic Gardens, we’d rent bicycles at City Park and see the latest exhibit at the Museum of Nature & Science. Checking if the lions are busy before we monkey around at the Denver Zoo also would be on the agenda. Visiting the coolest Uncle in town late in the afternoon, we’d line up for delicious ramen at the original location in the Highlands, capping off the evening singing our hearts out at Voicebox Karaoke in RiNo. We’d take time to pamper ourselves with massages at Balance Personal Wellness, eat a Mochi donut (or three) from Third Culture Bakery, leash up the dogs and hit the road to finish off the week in Crested Butte. Filling our thermos with Huckleberry Roasters coffee, we’d enjoy driving deep into the mountains to enjoy the wildflowers by horseback, hiking the Oh-Be-Joyful trail, shopping in town and, of course, eating our way through CB where you can just spin and point to find your next great meal — The Slogar, The Wooden Nickel, Marchitelli’s and Secret Stash.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a diverse and wide range of support: 1) My wife allows me to grow, change and always supports me with good advice (even if I don’t want it); 2) My family who is always available to answer a question, brainstorm, review copy or refer a contact; 3) My loyal and supportive group of friends who provide different perspectives, approaches, strength and hope; 4) Business teammates and vendors I met through organizations before I was self-employed who continue to enrich and enhance my life by creating opportunity, offering growth, solving problems, crewing alongside me and providing the most exceptional professional relationships.
