We had the good fortune of connecting with Martin Kier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Martin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had always been leaning towards entrepreneurial activities since a young age. No matter how much I tried to ignore it by taking regular jobs, I couldn’t escape that feeling. Since age 13, I have launched about 18 different business experiments. 3 were profitable. When I started Brand Buddy 3 years ago, I wanted a way to be flexible and help fellow business owners. I had seen tons of other agencies overcharge or not have a clue what they were doing. We all know the stories of “I paid thousands and didn’t get any kind of ROI”. After hearing that story over and over, I figured there was room in the market for an agency that knew what they were doing and not charging obscenely high rates.
I wanted to represent the smaller businesses that needed a helping hand in their digital marketing efforts. Plus, digital marketing as a whole is a wonderful blend of technical and creative which was a perfect match for me. I knew that businesses were going more and more digital every day, so it seemed like a safe bet to jump in. Plus – I knew I had control over my work load and income which is a wonderful, limitless feeling.
All in all, I found something where I could help others chase their dreams, impact the world, and benefit financially. It is a very rewarding feeling and I could not be more grateful.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
This business was established in 2019. We are a digital marketing agency with an office based in Arvada CO. The biggest thing that sets us apart is that we treat your marketing efforts as if they were our own! We have a proven track record of achieving between a 3-10X ROAS (return on ad spend) and love our jobs. We are always focused on helping business owners achieve consistent and profitable conversions, leads, and sales.
We got to where we are today by treating people… like humans. It sounds silly but it’s a big part of it! BNI and similar networking organizations were a massive boost in our success. The general trust and personal recommendations we get has exceeded my expectations.
A massive lesson we have learned along the way – no matter how good you think a product or service is, the market can often think differently no matter how good the marketing is. There are things you cannot control and that is okay. Other times, products or services you think that won’t work will surprise you. If I had to give fellow business owners one piece of advice to live by – it would be to experiment and learn!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to the RINO district of Denver – tons of fun things to do around there with great drinks and food. Otherwise, I would love to take them to some of my favorite fishing spots (whether it’s ice fishing or regular). Particularly Lake Urad in Empire, Blue Lake in Empire, 11 mile reservoir, Green Mountain Reservoir, and some local car meetups. Royal Gorge would be good to visit as well. Same with a few hot springs. I’m sure I am forgetting a few things but that would cover most of it.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Too many to list. Here are a few: My mother – a fellow entrepreneur who owns a local cleaning business.
Andrew Knutson – my earliest mentor / friend that pushed me to explore entrepreneurship.
BNI (Business Networking International) – I joined a fantastic chapter that spread my name like wildfire and supported me as the biz grew.
Troy Malesky – A former Navy Seal. He was one of the earliest clients I had come on board. Introduced me to two others that were absolute game changers in my business.
