Meet Josiah Trujillo | Independent Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Josiah Trujillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josiah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe that the most important factor behind my brand is never giving up and adapting to the challenges that life brings. Especially last year after being sent home from tour after the pandemic pretty much shut down everything. Although shows are still not really a thing, I have done a few live stream events since then and have been working on hard on getting my home studio where it needs to be so I can put out as much new music as possible. I also believe that another huge important factor behind success is being good to the people that truly support you. Whether its wearing merch, streaming my music, or coming to shows, I always do my best to make them feel as included as much as I can.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One day I would hope that the world knows how much I love the art and craft of hip hop. Also how much that it has saved my life. I truly believe that if it wasn’t for me taking my career seriously, I would have given into the challenges I’ve faced and be in a really bad situation. A creative lifestyle is never easy but I believe it will totally be worth it after I leave my mark on the world. The biggest lesson that I’ve learned so far is that you can’t wait for people to put you on. If you want to be successful you have to get out there and make it happen for yourself. I’ve had to make a lot of sacrifices to get where I’m at today, but another huge contribution is the support system I have. Thanks to them I have got to tour most of the country and I am really excited for the day when they take me worldwide.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If this was before Covid my first answer off the bat would definitely be a show at Red Rocks. It will always be my favorite place for live music. The next place I would recommend visiting would have to be look out mountain. The view of Denver is almost unbeatable there. I would definitely have to take them to my first job I had in the cannabis industry, which was Good Chemistry. I never had so much support from fellow co workers and staff than I had at Good Chemistry. As for food places I would have to say Pie Hole for pizza, the Denver Biscuit Company for breakfast, and the Rio on 16th for dinner. One more place that I’ve been wanting to check out myself is the new Horror Bar downtown.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would first and foremost like to dedicate my shoutout to my family. I have the most supportive parents a son could ask for and the most loving brother and sister a sibling could ask for. Another main person I would like to dedicate this to is my Uncle, Randy Narvaez. He passed away last year due to Covid and has always been a huge part of my life. We also shared a huge love for music and I believe he’s a big reason why I’m on the path I’m on. One more family member I’d like to dedicated this to is my cousin Nathan Romero. Without him I probably wouldn’t have got into hip hop when I did. I’d also like to give a huge shout out to Shawn Nutter for helping me get booked on the first show I ever did over 10 years ago now.
