Meet Rebecca Todd | Commercial Photographer & Environmental Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Todd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My commercial photography business, TruBlu Images , focuses on working with brands and organizations that have a mission of helping their communities and the environment. We create photographs that bring awareness to an environmental issue or cause in the local community.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My commercial photography helps brands have vibrant images that tell the whole story of their mission. My images have more of a documentary feel to them, from my passion for photojournalism. Starting out in photography is never easy. I got my first camera in high school and began taking beginner photography classes. I couldn’t give it up, and decided to major in photography at Louisiana State University. I studied every medium of art from painting, to drawing, sculpture and graphic design. This really helped me perfect my craft and artistic style. After college, I moved to New Orleans and began photographing for New Orleans tourism. I really zoned in on my vibrant photographic style by capturing festivals, live music, delicious food and cocktails, and the unique culture of the Big Easy. Moving to Denver in 2017 was another challenge. I had to rebuild my business from the ground up. Thankfully, networking in Denver came easy to me, and I was able to make strong relationships and form a great clientele base. I’ve learned relationships are key to business success. It doesn’t matter how talented you are.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite spots in Denver would have to be Run for the Roses speakeasy for drinks, Postino for wine and bruschetta boards, and of course ANY of the amazing local breweries (Lady Justice is a great one). We would definitely do a hike in the mountains, maybe stop in Georgetown for some food and ice cream. Also, Golden is my favorite small town to take people. We would do a walk down Clear Creek, eat at Woody’s Pizza and get some drinks at The State Room bar.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are SO many people and books, organizations that have inspired me to create my business and keep going year after year. First off, my parents inspired me to keep pursuing photography and study fine art in college. My college mentor, Jenn Ocken, taught me the business side of photography, which they don’t teach you in school. Pretty much every National Geographic photographer and explorer has inspired me to not just take photos, but to create images that make an impact on the world and tell a deeper story. Also, my networking group here in Denver called Firestorm has helped me meet so many talented business owners and has kept my business growing.
