Meet Quinn Saine | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Quinn Saine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quinn, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Since heading west over a decade ago and first looking out on California’s stunning coastline, I’ve been drawn to the the natural beauty, lifestyle, and the vast Pacific. There is no place I would rather create imagery than on the dramatic coastline and jacket-worthy climate of northern California.  Every photo tells a story, every photo is a memory, every photo reflects a trip.  This collection of photographs is representative of a visceral ride to the coast with the windows down and music up, knowing full well that more often than not I will come away with nothing I am absolutely psyched about. However, the euphoria of coming away with that rare magical image here and there supersedes the failed trips.

The body of work that came to life in late 2018 is overwhelmingly focused on creating images using a technique labeled as ICM photography, or intentional camera movement photography.  I stumbled upon this style by complete accident after feeling unoriginal in what I was putting out into the world as a self-taught photographer.  Upon viewing my first ICM image results, I fell in love with how absolutely unique each image is and the unlimited creative freedom there is in this style.  As I’ve developed my style in this medium over the years, my goal has always been to create a minimal image that provides a sense of calm, rhythm, movement, and simple beauty.

In essence, the most important factor behind my success is that although I doubted myself as many creatives do is to keep going, keep creating, and that if you are inspired when you create, you create inspiring things. It has been an interesting journey to find my style as a photographer but when you do the results are totally original.

Reaching out to fellow artists and creatives for mentorship continues to make a major difference in my success as they can tell you about mistakes they have made along the way so that you can avoid making those same mistakes. I always remind myself to celebrate the small wins along the way!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From the moment I stumbled upon ICM Photography (intentional camera movement) I fell in love with this medium. I am so fired up that creating my most recent body of work evokes emotion through the images. My ICM images are created exclusively on the coast to capture a flow of the water and letting the warmth of the sunset work with the cool tones of the Pacific.

I never thought that these images would go anywhere but I was absolutely creating from the heart and I became obsessed with the possibilities. To think that through this work I would be showing at high-end spas, wine tasting rooms, branding products, a solo exhibition, be selected for the cover of ICM Magazine, and have featured work at a university, to name a few small wins, is such an awesome feeling. There are so many trips to the ocean which result in nothing so to know that my work is appreciated and sought after keeps me going back.

The biggest lesson I have learned is that you never know. You never know which person could come out of the blue and give you the biggest sale of your life, you never know what that night out shooting the stars would result in if you pack it up and go home because it’s cold, windy and you can’t feel your hands. I try to keep finding reasons to know the result and that comes from committing to your craft no matter what.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever I am in Denver, I pack up the car and head for Grand Junction where my best friend Joey lives. We are going to start things out with a jumbo plate of tacos with all the fixins from Taco Party in Grand Junction. The Colorado National Monument is an absolute treasure well worth the ride out west. From there, I like to get out in the mountains on a spring day with the wildflowers in full bloom while camping the San Juans.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been extremely fortunate to have some incredible people by my side throughout this wild ride.

Karlie Saine my sister and biggest supporter/promoter and continues to fill me with positive energy. She has been there since day one and I am super thankful to have her in my life. She is filled with life, a thirst for life has a rad style about her, and is ultimately creative. I try to be a little more like her every day.

Joey Coleman is one of my best friends and believed in my art to use for all of the product brandings of Grand Junction, Colorado-based KAI CBD Company which he is the Founder and CEO. Not only did he believe in me to use my work but he is also a constant inspiration through his constant stoke for everything in life. He is a magnetic personality and will continue to inspire me, he has such a majorly positive influence on everyone he meets.

Vincent Connors is my favorite artist. I have become good friends with Vincent since meeting him a few years ago. He knows all things art and never runs out of fuel. He always has something totally unique in the making that blows me away. I have been lucky to spend so much time watching his creative process and assisting with visions he brings to life.
