Meet Julia Dordoni | Live Wedding Painter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Dordoni and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor to the success of my brand is that I offer a unique, timeless product that touches the hearts of others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love to create a fairytale scene with my art. I am inspired by mother nature and the energy of love. This is why painting weddings is perfect for me! I envelop myself in a majestic landscape, and then include a newlywed couple into the scene, to create a magical moment on canvas. I use enhanced colors when I paint because it heightens a magical feeling. I got where I am today as an artist by doing what I do well. I am naturally drawn to nature, so painting plein-air (on-site) is enjoyable. With my history as an art teacher, I enjoy entertaining crowds at weddings by demonstrating what I am doing. After my first wedding, I was hooked. I love the feedback from brides and grooms, when they share how much the love their painting, and how they will cherish it forever. It makes me feel so good to know that my art has such a positive impact on people. Brides have told me that my paintings are their favorite memento of their wedding! It is such an honor to hear that, and this positive feedback is what keeps me inspired to continue painting weddings. I love traveling to new places, and as a wedding painter, I get to see the most gorgeous spots all over Colorado every weekend. It is so inspiring to know that I get to see so many beautiful corners of the mountains that I otherwise may have never seen. Some of the challenges I have faced are being on the road a lot. Sometimes I have 2-5 weddings in one week and they frequently are 3-4 hours away from each other, so I often have to drive late at night to get to the next wedding’s location. Now that I bought a home in Estes Park, I am hoping to book the majority of weddings here in Estes Park and other venues on the Front Range that are within a 3 hour drive. Lessons that I have learned along the way as a wedding painter are: 1) Use a cart with big wheels to transport equipment because sometimes the best view is on top of a mound or across a field 2) Pack a small cooler with food and drinks 3) Bring a solar phone charger 4) Be prepared for every type weather! If I have one message to share with the world about me it’s that I have found my true passion, and I plan to be a wedding painter for the rest of my days on planet earth. I expect to be a little old lady in a chair painting weddings. This is my true destiny, and I feel a true connection with God when I am painting weddings. I feel so blessed that I found my calling, and am honored to share my gift with the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend is visiting Colorado for one week, I would encourage a few key experiences. 1) A day hike in the Rocky Mountain National Park.
2) A mountain bike ride in Steamboat Springs, or Winter Park.
3) A concert at Red Rocks.
4) A trip to Telluride, to hike, and eat at Brown Dog pizza.
5) Camping in the San Juan Mountains.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Jim Freeheart is a major inspiration to me. I met Jim on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado as he was in the middle of painting a beautiful street scene. I was immediately struck by not only the magic Jim was creating on canvas right before my eyes but also his enlightened spirit which lit the imaginations and hearts of those who encountered him.
