Meet Mikey Forster | Photographer – DoP

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikey Forster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mikey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
To have family and work flexibility, and the opportunity to innovate my own ideas without any corporate blowback.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most proud that I stuck with photography while so many of my associates have given up.
How I got to where I am now is perseverance and passion. It was not an easy task. Everyone is a photographer that has a camera in their pocket, (cell phones) so to make money, stand out, and be relevant is difficult.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way is learn from your mistakes, be willing to grow and learn, move past the rejections. Nom matter how talented you are you will be rejected at times. You need to move forward through that feeling and keep looking for the next assignment/task/client/project.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Denver, I would make sure that any out of town friends got to see a live show at Red Rocks amphitheater.
I would take them on a hike to the top of a fourteener. Or at least into the beautiful mountains.
The great Sand Dunes is a must as well as Mesa Verde
I would make sure they got to visit Casa Bonita just because that’s where my humor is. Gotta see Casa Bonita.
I would also take them to a good restaurant but that all depends on what kind of food they prefer, but I like chicken wings and the best chicken wing joint I know of in Denver is Fire on The Mountain. If they are vegan then they gotta eat at City O’ City or Watercourse. It really just depends on the individuals diets and tastes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Frank Cruz – A photographer that taught me everything. Frank is retired but I still call on him for advice sometimes.
Dave Neligh – One of my professors at the Art Institute of Colorado who has helped with getting clients for 15 + years.
David LaChappelle – A photographer in L.A. that I interned for, showed me what was possible in the world of photography.
Jason Forster – My brother whom introduced me to the world of video. He’s an amazing Creative Director living in L.A.
