We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brianna, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I first started KAE, I had a brand new baby and an ambitious- ride or die- mindset. I took on anything and everything in that first season, just so that I could gain experience and exposure. As the seasons have passed, I’ve learned that because I have a strong work style, its better for my personality to take on complete projects (versus just creating in one area such as flowers). Taking on entire events and managing the planning, design and production from the beginning has actually allowed me the space and creative freedom needed to take on more meaningful projects each year. This change in our business model and service approach has been instrumental for us- it’s become more about the 20/80 rule, where that initial 20% of planning now accounts for 80% of our results in design and production. This has simplified our processes, has cut out unnecessary time wasters and middlemen and allowed us to produce truly one of a kind and original work. I’d say that’s a pretty good balance to strike!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The work our team produces is heavily inspired by architecture and design. We like to take the expected, slice it up into little pieces, and reassemble it into something completely different or use it in an entirely unexpected way. Our events are structured like an architectural project. We frequently are creating new concepts within existing spaces or within existing mindsets and my number one goal as a designer is to shake it up. Just because something has always been done a certain way or is currently being done a certain way, doesn’t discredit any other concepts or possibilities. It’s incredibly exciting when we get to work with clients and partners who understand and appreciate this about us! It’s this tenacity that makes us what we are today. It’s not easy- for every one success there are twenty fails right in front of it. But we don’t let this stop us from trying new things. We’ve learned to never water down our mindset, style or approach for the sake of appeasing others ideals and it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences we could have ever imagined!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We really love the Denver Art Museum and Botanical Gardens. Talk about beautiful architecture and design working alongside natural elements. They are both very inspiring places to enjoy either solo or in good company. I’m definitely an activities person and I like to do new things as often as possible, so getting out of town and exploring new places and restaurants is something our family does more than anything.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Huge thank-you to our growing number of partners out there who have helped KAE stay moving throughout the pandemic and throughout the industry overall. It’s a competitive market and people come and go but we’ve been fortunate enough to form genuine connections with like valued people and organizations who genuinely get our vision and our work style. We are not for everyone and that’s one of the qualities that we feel actually makes us stand out. So the people who are still with us today and those who are coming to us now- thank you! We are excited to see where our relationships take us.
