Meet Amber & Austin Richman | Yoga Studio Owners

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber & Austin Richman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber & Austin, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Having a mission–to make yoga accessible–and not defining success in traditional ways. We prioritize community, accessibility, and education in all decision making. Additionally, having yogic philosophy at the core of how we manage the business has been a guiding light when we just aren’t sure what to do. In the last 12.5 years we have made a lot of decisions that we knew would not make money or would even lose money and went ahead with them anyway because they fed into our mission and/or espoused our values. Obviously, there is a calculus to it because you still have to make sound business decisions to keep the doors open, but we have clear and present metrics to measure our success that are not based on numbers alone.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We opened Cambio with a mission to make yoga accessible. We continue to work toward this with our donation model, community based focus, down-to-earth teachers, and broad range of classes. We have classes for a variety of needs, from adaptive yoga to hot yoga to curvy and restorative–and many other kinds–as well as offering a one of a kind teacher training. We are passionate about making an inviting atmosphere for people of all ranges of yoga experience from the seasoned practitioner to the brand new and possibly intimidated student. We want students to feel welcome and comfortable.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I always love showing off good eatery’s like Burrowing Owl, The Joint, and Monse’s as fave places to eat. For hanging out I always love checking out the art scene at Kreuser Gallery, and popping across the street to Ohana for great non-alcoholic drink offerings. Other than that any visitor would have to see any one of the many great scenic hikes within the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many wonderful people who have been a part of our path and Cambio’s story, but our parents are the people who believed in us from the start. Without their encouragement, advice, and care, we wouldn’t be here. We lost our mom to Covid last year. She introduced us to yoga and was our biggest cheerleader. We are so grateful for the ways that she shaped us so that we would have the creativity, the nerve and the perseverance to do this. Our dad helps us with many of the day to day stuff as well as general wisdom and support to run a business.
