Meet Kaylyn Lewis | Singer/Songwriter, Licensed Esthetician & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylyn Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaylyn, what role has risk played in your life or career?
After I became a mom and continued to mature over the years, I’ve realized that you have to take risks in order to make any sort of changes in your life. I used to work a 9-5 job as a front desk receptionist for years and I never felt fully satisfied. I always knew that I wanted to be a singer/song writer along with opening my own businesses including my own spa that would eventually branch out one day. I’ve had many people tell me that I need to go to school to get a degree in order to become successful, but even at a young age I never really agreed with that. I’ve always been good about doing things instead of just talking about doing the things I want to do. After I was treated poorly by a number of businesses in the past, I had finally had enough. I told myself that I wouldn’t be taken advantage of anymore and that’s what really pushed me to not only do what I love but to also become my own boss. I finally quit my “real job” and started my own business on December 1st of 2021 that’s called “Kayboo Beauty” that’s now partnered with the “Green Difference Spa” which was originally started by my mom “Sheri Lewis”. Not too long after opening up my spa, someone found my singing videos on my TikTok account “Kayboo077” with over 34,000 followers so far and asked to manage me for my singing and song writing. Now I’m not only a young business owner but I’m also pursuing my singing/song writing career and I’m happier than ever. At first I had fears of the possibility of things not working out in my favor but now I know that taking the risk was the right way to go. If it wasn’t for me taking that leap of faith then I would never know what I’d be able to accomplish.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I grew up with music around me because lots of my family members are or were in the music industry.. Since I was a little girl I began to perform for open mics, school events, and paid gigs starting at age 15. My grandfather Henry Lewis was an amazing singer, guitarist, pianist, song writer, and was apart of the record label for Burgundy Records before he passed away. Unfortunately my family and I have suffered immensely by losing several family members to suicide. This has pushed me to never give up on my dreams of becoming a singer and most importantly, to never to give up on myself. I sang for the youth choral at the Philharmonic of Naples, FL when I was only 10 years old and then I sang the national anthem for the Boston Red Sox game in front of thousands of people at age 16. I wouldn’t only sing for all of my school events and games, but I also got to sing on TV for a morning show on ABC News. I’ve been singing and writing my own original songs that I’ve recorded in the studio since I was just 15 years old. I released my first single called “I’m not the one for you” on Easter Day of 2020 and it’s on all music platforms. I’m not only an R&B/Pop artist, but I love all genres of music and I also sing Christian music because I believe that God gave me the gift of singing so the least I can do is spread his love and light onto as many people as possible through my music. I’m currently working on more original music that will be released soon and my overall goal in life is to make a difference in this world. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If one of my best friends came to the area to visit then they’d be in for treat here in beautiful Colorado! One of my favorite spots to go to for great food, drinks, live music, art & more is Coati which is located in downtown Colorado Springs. Sometimes I’ll even sing there on Sundays and the cool thing about it is that they’ve got a big variety of food options. I absolutely love Manitou Springs because they have the cutest shops, restaurants, boutiques and they have a penny arcade which is great for kids and families to go to. Not to mention that if you’re an outdoorsy person like me then Manitou Springs has a lot of great hiking trails and the coolest spots that are hidden. One of my favorite relaxing spots is this beautiful cave area with running water which is located off a side trail that you can find near the bottom of Barr Trail. There’s a super cute coffee shop called Jives which is located in Old Colorado City and I discovered it in 2019 when I was looking at places where I could sing at open mic night and I used to sing there every Wednesday night. A great spot for cliff diving in the summertime is called Paradise Cove which is located in Guffey, Colorado and it’s a little bit of a hike to get to it but it’s totally worth it if you want to have some fun in the sun. I also love going to the Pueblo Reservoir with friends and family during the summer time as well and we just bring food and drinks and go swimming but you can also go boating and do other water activities there too. Last but not least, one of my other favorite spots for some good food, drinks and to play some pool is at Mother Muffs which is located in Old Colorado City, they’ve got great breakfast and lunch there during the day and it’s always a good time at night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to God first for blessing me with all of my talents that have allowed me to achieve all of my accomplishments so far. Second, I’d love to thank my amazing son named Jaxton for always being there to motivate and encourage me to do better and being able to have him by my side and seeing his mama do what she loves is one of the best feelings in the world. Last but definitely not least I’d love to give a shoutout to my beautiful mommy & sister, my handsome boyfriend & little brother along with all of my close family and friends who have always believed in me and have supported me along the way with my journey. I didn’t know what I’d do without any of them and I’m forever grateful for everything that they’ve done for me.
