Often we don’t have to reinvent the wheel to learn something new – we can just ask experts in the field who can draw on their experience to enlighten us. Below, we’ve shared insights insiders from various industries have shared with us.
Nichole Wardle | Vice President of Sales- Reverie Social & PEAK Event Services
There is a lot about the event rental business in general that people outside of the industry don’t understand. I’d say a few that come to mind immediately are: (1) it is a sustainable option in itself as by renting you are helping to reduce consumer waste after the event is over, (2) event rental companies are much more than just the product. We are experts on event logistics, we have long standing relationships with planners, producers, designers, caterers, venues and hotels so we have our pulse on the entire industry on a daily basis and in most cases we are the behind-the-scenes fixer of almost anything that could go wrong the day of the event, (3) we are product obsessed. Kelly Miller | Farmers Market Manager/ Event Planner
One thing about my industry that outsiders are probably unaware of is that being a weekly, seasonal event the emphasis is on creating a quality and diverse vendor base. Keeping the focus on food is essential to calling it a farmers market but allowing other local businesses to be involved is key to success. There is also a lot of competition in our industry so having a organized event with good communication is important to attract the best vendors which in turn offers the community the best products available. Nancy Savage | International Photographer
In the intricate dance between a photographer and their subjects, outsiders may be unaware of the profound significance that unfolds behind the lens. The realization dawned early on in my journey that the true essence of travel photography lies in meaningful connections with people. As the years have woven their tapestry, the art of capturing moments has evolved into a deeper exploration of lives lived. I’ve dedicated time to understand not just individuals but the intricate fabric of their families and daily rituals. The experiences etched into my memory are irreplaceable, a testament to the rarity of being embraced by isolated communities and sharing in their everyday routines. A unique privilege arises when documenting the lives of indigenous people who not only welcome but trust me to unveil their uncommon traditions and lifestyles. Read more>>
Kelly Nix | Managing Director
From my perspective as the Managing Director at Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary, I would say that the most surprising aspect of the farmed animal sanctuary industry to those on the outside is the incredibly rich and varied personalities of the animal residents we care for. People might not realize that farmed animals are as distinct as pets, like dogs and cats. At Luvin Arms, we see daily how each resident exhibits their preferences, friendships, dislikes, and quirks. They form social bonds, show affection, and can be playful, contemplative, or assertive. Our approach to care is tailored to recognize and respect these personalities, ensuring that each resident is seen and treated as an individual with intrinsic value, not as a commodity. Read more>>
Pat Minervini | Glass Embosser /Gilder /Brilliant Cutter / Artist / Designer / Craftsman
Many of the processes I use today were at their peak during the Victorian era. In the US a significant number of advertising signs for Alcohol and Tobacco as well as store fronts were created by Glass Embossers. One large supplier was Rawson and Evans with locations in NY. and Chicago. These large businesses employed many craftsmen each specializing in a particular glass embossing skill. With the implementation of Prohibition, Rawson & Evans and many other such businesses were forced to shut their doors. The skilled artisans /craftsman passed and with them their knowledge of glass embossing. I have spent 4 concentrated years traveling to Latvia and England and across the US to seeking out knowledge of the glass embossing skills. Unlike in earlier times where the artisan focused on one area I am required to become skilled in many. Read more>>
