Hi Abdulsamad, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

Starting my own photography business, Damas_visuals, was not a decision made on a whim but rather the culmination of years of passion, dedication, and a deep-seated desire to tell stories through the lens of a camera. My journey into the world of portrait and editorial photography began as a hobby, but it quickly evolved into something much more profound and meaningful.

Discovering the Power of Photography

From a young age, I was captivated by the power of images. A photograph, in my view, is not merely a static representation of a moment in time but a vivid narrative that can evoke emotions, convey messages, and connect people across different cultures and experiences. This realization ignited a spark within me, leading me to explore photography with an insatiable curiosity and an eagerness to learn.

From Passion to Profession

As I honed my skills and developed my unique style, I began to see the impact my work had on those around me. Friends and family would often commend my ability to capture the essence of a person or a moment, and this positive feedback was both encouraging and affirming. It was during this period that I started to contemplate the idea of turning my passion into a profession. The thought of dedicating my life to something that not only brought me immense joy but also resonated deeply with others was incredibly appealing.

My art, represented through Damas_visuals, is characterized by a deep commitment to storytelling and authenticity. The Path to Professionalism

The early days were particularly challenging. I faced difficulties in acquiring high-quality equipment, securing clients, and navigating the complexities of the photography business. From my roots in Ejuku, Kogi State, Nigeria, to my current endeavors, each step of the journey has been driven by a desire to connect with people and share their stories through the lens of my camera. Damas_visuals represents a fusion of tradition and innovation, a commitment to authenticity, and a dedication to creating powerful visual narratives. My journey has been shaped by the lessons learned and the support received along the way, and I am excited to continue exploring new creative horizons and sharing my art with the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting Aberdeen for a week, I’d ensure they experienced the city’s vibrant essence. Our journey would start with a stroll through the historic Old Aberdeen, marveling at its cobbled streets and ancient architecture. We’d savor a meal at The Silver Darling, renowned for its fresh seafood and stunning views of the harbor. For drinks, we’d head to the trendy Rye & Soda, known for its eclectic cocktails and lively atmosphere.

The week would also include a visit to the stunning Aberdeen Art Gallery, showcasing a diverse collection of fine art. We’d explore the picturesque Duthie Park, where the Winter Gardens offer a lush escape. A day trip to the nearby Crathes Castle, with its enchanting gardens, would provide a glimpse into Scotland’s rich history.

Evenings would be spent enjoying the local music scene, perhaps catching a live band at The Tunnels. Throughout the week, I’d capture our adventures with photographs, ensuring every moment of laughter and exploration is preserved for us to cherish.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As I reflect on my journey in building Damas_visuals, I am reminded that no success story is written in isolation. The path to where I am today is paved with the support, mentorship, love, and encouragement of many incredible individuals and organizations. I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to those who have been instrumental in my growth as a photographer and a professional.
First and foremost,I give thanks to Allah for His guidance, blessings, and wisdom throughout my journey. My faith has been a source of strength and inspiration, helping me overcome challenges and stay true to my purpose. Without His grace, none of this would have been possible. As the Quran states, “And whatever of blessings and good things you have, it is from Allah.” (Quran 16:53)

I would like to give a heartfelt shoutout to the photographers who have significantly influenced my craft. Working with Cypher Media, Edos Artistry and understudying works of photographer like Big H Studio,Emmanuel Oyeleke and Bedge has been an enlightening experience. These mentors not only shared their technical expertise but also inspired me with their passion for storytelling through images. Their guidance helped me refine my skills and develop a unique artistic voice.

Furthermore, My family and friends have been my unwavering pillars of support. Their belief in my talent and constant encouragement gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams. From the early days of experimenting with photography to launching Damas_visuals, their enthusiasm and constructive feedback have been invaluable. Special thanks to my parents, whose love and support provided a strong foundation, and to my friends who have always been my biggest cheerleaders.
