Meet Adrienne Nelson | Crochet Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrienne Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adrienne, why did you pursue a creative career?
I don’t remember a time when I haven’t gravitated towards creative pursuits. From floral design, event planning, baking, teaching, and now crochet designs, I have sampled it all. One of the biggest challenges I now face as a creative business owner is spending too much time experimenting and creating new designs!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a lifelong educator, I have always had my hand in the creative world, but less in the business world. It wasn’t until the world shut down in 2019, when I finally had the time and space to pursue personal creative projects and ultimately start my business. The last 2 years have been a huge learning curve. I am not a natural risk taker, so initially I started small, with Etsy. Learning and understanding marketing, business finance, managing inventory, shipping, were all challenging endevours that ate into my creative time. Overtime, I was able to finetune my business, grow it into its own website, and get my product into a local boutique. I am still learning, but ultimately what brings me the greatest joy is seeing people in my designs. The time and effort are so worth the joy that my creations bring!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have lived in Aspen, CO for 10 years, and I still find myself experiencing it through the eyes of a tourist. We would start with a light breakfast at Local, a coffee house in the core. From there we would catch the Silver Queen Gondola to head to the top of Aspen Mountain for some light hiking and HUGE views. Afterward, we would ride down and grab lunch at Ajax Tavern, before doing some window shopping through town. The next day we would catch the bus to head out the the White River National Forest to visit the Maroon Bells. We would head back into town for Happy Hour on a patio. On any given night we might find a free live concert at the Aspen Music Tent or at the base of Snowmass.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Growing up, I spent countless summer days creating with my Grandma Dorothy. She first taught me to crochet when I was six. Over the years she has been my constant cheerleader. She would be “tickled” to see what I am doing now!
