We had the good fortune of connecting with Aimee Straw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aimee, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Competence and compassion are at the heart of what I do. My clients are real, live, complicated humans just like the rest of us! I aim to help them through dynamic and sometimes difficult situations that come about with the purchase or sale of their mountain property. I am in this business to establish relationships for a lifetime, and my job never ends at the closing table. I am client centered, and not worried about the transactional numbers. The deals I do and that success is a by-product of how well I relate to, and serve my clients. Especially in the rapidly advancing age of technology where there is so much that can be done online, I still think that having a relationship based approach is necessary. Sure, you can look up a lot of info online, but do you have the 10,0000 hours to become an expert in that area? Personally, I know I hire out services like bookkeeping and accounting because that isn’t my wheelhouse! I have been in real estate for 10+ years and have closed 80+ deals since getting licensed in 2016. Since then I have always gone above and beyond in my continuing education, have earned designations such as certified negotiation expert, certified listing professional, and certified expert buyers agent. I have experience in land, residential, new construction, deed restricted properties and more. I even dabbled in finish selections on new construction homes! I have always had a love for all things artistic and creative, and I think that really does lend itself well to my creative problem solving skills and abilities to market my listings well or get buyers into their dream homes and building wealth along the way. I completed the Nina Selling leadership installation in June 2024 and have upgraded my real estate license to managing broker. I genuinely love my job. It is an extension of my past customer service positions and has allowed me the freedom and flexibility to be me and flourish. I am excited to chat with anyone curious about our market and look forward to putting my skills to work for you!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I built my business one relationship at a time. I came from a “people person” background to begin with, majoring in Communications and minoring in Sociology in college. I worked as a bartender, server, nanny, in retail and a doctor’s office after college. I was really successful in those positions and always got great joy out making others happy. I moved out to Colorado in 2012 and got a job with the ski resort helping customers put together vacation packages. I was also pretty darn good at that, and soon started thinking about a stable career with room for growth in real estate, being that I wanted to stay in the mountains and couldn’t survive on the ski bum pay checks I was getting. I knew that getting my own business off the ground would take a lot of hard work, so I put in that time and effort from the get go, learning what it took to be a Realtor in the first place as a font desk admin for a boutique firm in Breckenridge. I became an un-licensed assistant after that, and then decided to get licensed myself in 2016.

I think the fact that I put people first sets me apart. Whether that is with my clients, or with my community members. Those relationships are crucial to making things happen and sustaining this vibrant mountain town lifestyle that so many of us love. I am grateful to be at a small real estate company with the flexibility to tailor my marketing dollars to my clients needs, and not going off to some big company’s franchise fees. Cornerstone Real Estate Rocky Mountains has no shortage of expertise despite being a smaller office, and I am grateful for the excellent mentorship that I received as a young agent. My customer service background has also helped further my career, and my determination to have my business support my mountain lifestyle. A few of my family members have the entrepreneurial spirit as well, and there is no denying that there is a lot of gratification that comes from running a successful business that helps people better their lives by growing their wealth through real estate. It has certainly helped me go from growing up in a rural area of Maine to owning multiple properties in an effort to better my family and my daughter’s life. A big part of that is giving back. Supporting my real estate business is also a way to support this amazing community in Summit County and Park County. I am a proud member of the Rotary Club of Summit County, Women of the Summit, and make regular donations to my daughters not for profit preschool, as well as the Summit Foundation, local youth hockey and the Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival, among other endeavors and sponsorships.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my gosh. Where do I begin?! Being that I live closest to Breckenridge, I would probably start there. If it’s summer, we are taking a wildflower hike. In the winter, we are definitely hitting the slopes. We’ll want to happy hour at one of my favorite spots, Twist. And perhaps catch a movie at the Eclipse theatre in town, complete with extra comfy chairs and a glass of wine. Being that our legs may be a little tired the next day, we’ll probably want to do a little stroll along Main Street to do some window shopping, starting with a coffee and pastry from Cool River Coffee House or The Crown. We may wander up to Ready, Paint, Fire to create some incredible art after being inspired by Breck Create’s arts district. And there is always some amazing craftsman ship on display at one of their many festivals or events. We may catch a concert at the Riverwalk Center after that or see what the Backstage Theatre has playing that day. For first time visitors, it is always fun to take a mine tour at Country Boy mine and do a little gold panning! A horse drawn sleigh ride or dog sled is always a blast, and I of course cannot forget to mention our amazing lake access down the road at Lake Dillon. Taking a leisurely paddle on a SUP or renting a pontoon boat is an incredible way to take in the views. At the end of the trip, I like to take a little journey over to one of the many neighboring hot springs in Buena Vista, Steamboat or Glendwood. There is nothing like a soak in those healing waters after all of that adventure! But we could always stick close to home and get an awesome massage in Breck at Harmony, Sol Impressions, or Breckenridge Mountain Massage, too 🙂

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I 100% must credit much of my success to Larry Kendall and the Nina Selling Crew https://ninjaselling.com/. Their mission is to educate agents to “stop selling and start creating value.” It is the mindset I had all along before getting into real estate and taking this course early in my career only affirmed and validated that! They taught me that I could be me to help people navigate the real estate market, and not the sleazy salesman reputation that Realtors have. I believe they, and myself are on a mission to change that perception into a positive one!
