We had the good fortune of connecting with Alan Skowron and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My initial thought process for wanting to start my own business was the idea of working for myself and having an opportunity to develop and grow my own music studio.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is a music studio where I teach private music lessons ranging from guitar, bass, and piano; as well as some of the other string instruments such as ukulele and mandolin. I also provide instruction in music theory, improvisation and song writing. My diverse musical background, coupled with an earned M.A. degree in Music Performance, has helped me develop a unique approach in teaching music lessons, while applying pedagogical principles in my instruction. I use various methods and resources when teaching individuals in order to cater to one’s own strengths and development. I feel my rapport with students has helped my business by keeping attrition low, while helping me earn and maintain a positive reputation in the community.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One day, we would have an early lunch at Big City Burrito. We would take a hike in the foothills and possibly visit Rocky Mountain National Park during the warmer months. Another activity would be checking out local music talent at a concert hall or club such as the Aggie Theatre in Fort Collins. We may grab a beer at a micro-brew/distillery such as Dryland Distillers or Left Hand Brewing in Longmont.
