We had the good fortune of connecting with Aleik Maddox and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aleik, why did you pursue a creative career?
As someone who was raised by a musician, I realized early that music was much more than just a job or a means to make money. To me, it’s a responsibility. When people come to shows they are looking for something and it’s my duty to be authentic and open enough to give what is needed. Through that process I’ve likewise been able to supply for my own needs emotionally. I fell in love with the exchange of emotion between the band and the audience and I wasn’t able to see myself wanting to do anything else at that point.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Recently I’ve been most excited about my rebranding which is still in process. It took me a very long time to get out of my own way and be who I truly want to be as a musician and a brand. I’m most proud of being true to myself, because in my experience, that has always been the key to finding the right kinds of success and people. I’ve learned to go with my gut even with thoughts that may not make sense, and I’ve also learned to be vulnerable but aware. Ofcourse, there will always be obstacles and negativity, but holding on to those core values from the beginning always gets me through. It was not easy to get the bits of success that I’ve had so far. I had to see that there’s an opportunity to learn from every person or thing that I come across.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Anywhere there is live music and coffee, you can find me. But beyond that, the thing I enjoy most is seeing the trees and mountains and spending time in the calm and natural world. I found a recent love for kayaking which goes along wonderfully with one of my favorite activities, fishing. We’d probably add a little biking to the mix and maybe have some nice brunches and dinners. However, in my opinion, the best times are always made exchanging stories with a good album playing in the background.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family has played a huge role in my success and confidence. When no one showed up, I knew I could count on 8 or 9 family members to come see me. I’ve also had the pleasure of playing with some of the most talented musicians in the area. To name a few, there’s Baby Black, The Turbulent Society, The Unlistenables, and Blu Moon Revival.
