We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Mellott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra, why did you pursue a creative career?
I found pursuing a creative outlet for my career over a more professional 9-5 just made sense for me. I love being creative from day to day and creating something new with every client. I also love being my own boss and choking how much I work on my custom costumes and jackets everyday. Creating custom jackets is a unique experience every time and each one is hand made with love, I honestly get so attached to each of the jackets I make because they turn out so fun and one of a kind!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make custom jackets and costumes! I love creating a custom piece for someone to love for years to come, each piece is completely unique to the customer and what they want, no two pieces are the same. My jackets can be any theme under the sun, most are sports related but my most popular jackets are Taylor Swift or concert jackets. I enjoy getting really creative with some clients who want a personality or special kind of theme.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What a fun question! We’d probably go to the boradway bars and grab cocktails and then explore some of the artwork and murals in Denver on scooters! Then find a quiet and mood restaurant to go to for dinner. I’m not a huge mountain girl but I could probly get talked into a hike or boating day on one our Colorado’s beautiful lakes.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Brandon Mellott! He encouraged me to do the custom creations after watching me make them for friends for so many years! He’s been so supportive and patient with me when our whole kitchen is covered in craft supplies.
