Meet Alli Gerrish | Visual and VoiceOver artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alli Gerrish and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alli, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
As a visual and voiceover artist, I believe in the power of art to help people tap into a universal consciousness of the common joys and fears we all share. The world can be a challenging place and creating art, in whatever form, is a peaceful way to make order out of chaos and to share the beautiful that is always found next to the challenging. I have been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember and find that by helping myself and others explore the energy of our circumstance, we can use that written word or visual language to heal our hearts and minds and hopefully create a source of inspiration for how we would like to move forward in years to come.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My latest body of work, titled “Diary of a Lockdown,” has been created over the last couple years as a visual meditation on our shared experience, from a time when our democracy, our health and even our planet have felt in jeopardy. Faced with the gallery world shutting down and my usual studio space unavailable, I began experimenting with digital creation on my phone. The resulting collection of almost 100 videos combine my visual process of painting with narrative voiceover and music to create a living journal, chronicling the global events unfolding around me, even as the world was kind of resting on pause. The work evolved into a series of experiential animations highlighting our society’s vulnerabilities and dreams of a better future.
Viewing art has been proven to help people process and heal from universal trauma. It can shine a light on our darkest corners and allow people the opportunity to challenge their own thinking, which right now feels like it is needed more than ever.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We have had record snowfall this year in the mountains of Colorado and so Boulder is definitely a winter wonderland playground right now. Whether it’s a hike up Sanitas along the foothills, or exploring Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs or heading up to Rocky Mountain National Park it is definitely a must to get outside and enjoy our beautiful blue sky winter days. For some epic downhill, head up to Vail and the expansive back bowls, or just book a reservation at The10th and enjoy some of the most gorgeous views around.
Boulder is a college town with an outdoorsy vibe and lots of great dining as well. Maybe start the day with a hike around the Chautauqua Loop Trail to take in the incredible views of our iconic flatirons, have a late brunch at Lucile’s Creole Cafe and then hit some art cinema at The Dairy Center. Enjoy some live music at night at the Jamestown Mercantile, a small mountain hangout with local craft beers and homemade food. The perfect funky way to round out a Boulder day!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Good friends and family are always the backbone of giving artists the courage to speak up and put themselves out into the world and I am so grateful for mine. Boulder is filled with an incredibly supportive artist community as well. Joan Anderson at Mountain Water Retreat has been a talented and kind mentor who has always allowed me to explore outside of the traditional education I received in the past. She is someone I have turned to again and again when I am creating a new body of work to help me see, absorb and process what I am trying to communicate.
