We had the good fortune of connecting with Allie Tyler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allie, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve been a musician for over 25 years and a voice teacher for 12 years. The Whole Voice took 10 years to come to fruition and has had many forms! My initial business was (vaguely) named “Allie Tyler Music Studio” for many years and offered private voice lessons for kids and adults. But in 2018, I felt a significant shift in my life that inspired me to expand my services and mission beyond voice lessons. I started seeing the profound affects the human voice had particularly on adults who had been afraid of expressing themselves. Singing and using your voice is extremely vulnerable and can bring up limiting beliefs, fears, and past traumas. (I always say I’m 30% a singing coach and 70% a therapist!) The name “The Whole Voice” and its mission came about a year later — an all-inclusive business with services & products to help adults transcend their consciousness, courage, and creativity. The Whole Voice educates & inspires adults to listen to their inner voice (intuition) and express their outer voice through modalities of speaking, singing, and beyond.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Being a musician with two degrees in Vocal Arts, we’re programmed to follow the “starving artist” mentality. Business & marketing practices are not widely available to artists when we so desperately need them to make a living. After finishing my Master’s degree, I became obsessed with learning everything I could about online modern marketing strategies to help grow my voice teaching business. It took 6 years of failed launches, crickets, and thousands of dollars wasted on facebook ads to finally create visibility in my business that attracts my ideal clients — amateur adults who want to learn how to sing for joy. A surprising part of this journey has been the amount of music teachers equally interested in learning how to utilize online marketing strategies. Over the course of 6 years, I went from editing resumes to designing brands to building websites until eventually landing on running a monthly marketing membership for a large community of voice teachers from all over the world. Each month, I teach them how to grow & scale their teaching businesses online. (Which has now become a huge part of my own business!) Helping others share their teaching craft with the world has been nothing short of incredible. And although took *years* of mistakes and figuring things out by myself, I’m so glad my own experience can impact hundreds of music teachers’ success!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Golden, Colorado means enjoying the variety of outdoor activities the state has to offer! Depending on the season, of course, each day would be filled with an outdoor adventure ending with drinks at a brewery, restaurant, or a delicious meal on our home deck overlooking the mountains. We’d go hiking at South or North Table Mountain in Golden (South Table is a 5 minute walk from my house), rent scooters around Denver for a day, hit up Pearl Street Mall and Chautauqua in Boulder for a day, go to a show or walk around Red Rocks, visit Estes Park & Rocky Mountain National Park, rent electric bikes to tour around a mountain town, and we can’t forget camping! Hiking in the beautiful mountains, soaking in hot springs, and finding an isolated camping spot is one of the best ways to enjoy Colorado. My husband and I regularly “glamp” in our converted camper van filled with LED lights, music, and fire spinning toys — our mountain adventures are unique, filled with good food and dancing, and making our own fun with loved ones!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many positive influences that went into The Whole Voice. I have close friends who have supported my wild ideas every step of the way, and my husband has been my biggest sounding board and brainstorm partner. I’m extremely grateful for the education I’ve received in online courses & programs by Marie Forleo, Stu McLaren, and Amy Porterfield. Truthfully, my biggest influences come from books — particularly that of business and self development. Being a self-starter, I get so much inspiration & creative ideas from the art of learning. “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert, “Sacred Success” by Barbara Stanny, “The Pumpkin Plan” by Mike Michalowicz, and “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle have impacted me more than I can put into words. I’m extremely grateful for the abundance of knowledge that’s so easily available to us!
