We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Hayek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allison, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When we started our venture, Cheyenne, WY lacked a quality midwifery care option. My business partner, Sarah, and I each had our own positive out of hospital birth experiences with a home birth midwife – sometimes traveling 1.5 hours each way for prenatal visits! We wanted to bring midwifery care for prenatal, birth, postpartum, and well-woman care to the families of Southeastern Wyoming. We desire to be a hub for maternity, birth, parenting, and wellness in our area.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Earthside Birth & Wellness Center aims to be the first licensed and accredited freestanding birth center in the state of Wyoming. Accreditation with the AABC will bring a level of standardization and professionalism to our care practices. We are staffed by Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs), specially trained medical providers in gynecological wellness, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We offer out of hospital birth in our freestanding birth center in Cheyenne. The office atmosphere brings an ease and comfort to each client that enters. Our team includes specialists in pregnancy nutrition, labor preparation & support, and lactation. Our team prepares and supports a family intending on an unmedicated birth experience – even if they are nervous to begin with! Community birth (outside of a traditional medical setting when all factors are normal) is a transformational process for the family and sets them up for parenting in a way that trusts their intuition and their family unit.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Just a hop, skip, and a jump up from Metro Denver & the Front Range, Cheyenne, Wyoming offers fun, free space, and clear skies. With a week in the area, hiking or mountain biking in Curt Gowdy State Park as well as hiking or skiing in the Snowy Range Mountains outside of Laramie, WY would be front and center. Adventure mornings can start early and caffeinated with treats from the Paramount Cafe in historic downtown Cheyenne. Back in town for a day to explore the Capitol area and the Wyoming State Museum, afternoon tea and treats can be taken at the Hawthorn Tree.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We appreciate the help and leadership from the American Association of Birth Centers (AABC) and from Aubre Tompkins with Seasons Community Birth Center in Thornton.
