We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Kuhl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I first thought about starting my business I had already been a groomer at PetSmart for 10 years. I knew some mobile groomers and that sparked my interest. I was tired of working for someone and knew mobile could be great for me but it’s expensive to get a van or bus! I started to do my friends dogs in their homes and they loved it! Being able to talk with me and watch their dog being groomed was a big hit! The more I looked into grooming outside of PetSmart and starting my own business I realized that doing in home grooming could be a great way to start out my business. I was able to reach out to other in home groomers for advice which was extremely helpful.

What should our readers know about your business?
This January I decided to start up A+Pup! It is an in home dog grooming business. I come to you and create a stress free environment for your dog so he/she can enjoy being groomed from the comfort of home! No cages, loud noses from other dogs, and most pet parents like to sit and talk to me as I groom which gives the dog even more comfort to know they aren’t being left anywhere! I thought about opening up my own grooming business about 2 years ago. I wasn’t happy at the salon I was at and felt like I was at a stand still. I picked out my name and created my logo but then Covid hit and that made me put a hold on things. I finally decided to take the leap in December and officially opened in January! I think what helped me decide to finally go for it was the support I had from my regulars at the salon I was at. Most of them knew I wanted to do my own thing and kept telling me I should and encouraged me along the way! My goal is to give every dog I groom and enjoyable experience in grooming and make them look beautiful! Many dogs doze off while I’m trimming them or lick me while I groom them and I love that because it means they are comfortable with me and trust me!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really enjoy checking out new restaurants and breweries so I would go to a few of my favorite breweries like Empourium or Zuni brewery! After that I would go to hapa sushi grill or postinos for some bruschetta or patzcauros has some really good Mexican food! I would have to go to red rocks for a concert and maybe check out Pearl street to shop! For fun, depending on the season, I’d want to go tubing and snowboarding or paddle boarding and hiking! A really pretty hike is the chief mountain trail!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to credit dog training elite for getting my name out there and for always supporting me but also my regulars from the salon I used to work at who have decided to come along with me on this journey and continue to use me as their groomer.
