We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Woodson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The single most important factor behind my success, is family – whether that be my own or those of my clients.

My family helped me land on the path of photography, and my clients and their families keep me on this career path. Without the support, love, and togetherness that comes with it, none of this would be possible and I would have little to give in the photography world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a photographer!

Growing up, I had a love for photos – being able to capture any and everything with a single click of a button was simply fascinating. Then being able to look through the developed pictures, build photo albums, and have the ability “look back in time”! It still fascinates and excites me, and that is how I know I love my “job”.

As an entrepreneur, everything is built from the ground up – it hasn’t been easy building this career. There have been plenty of failed attempts, questionable moments, and burnouts – and I’m sure there are more to come. So, being able to stay centered, focused, and remember why I started is essential.

I love meeting new people and reuniting with past clients; the rapport that is built is more than just a photographer/client relationship. You become invested and intertwined with the lives of those you spend time with, so inherently I develop a connection with any person or family that I photograph. After all, I am eternally freezing a moment of their time, in hopes that they will be able to look back and cherish a fond memory.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As an out-of-towner, I am not overly familiar with the beautiful State of Colorado and all the beautiful things that it has to offer. However, I have visited enough times to say where my personal favorite hot spots and must see places are!

The top of my list is Lookout Mountain! It is a long windy drive up and then back down the mountain – the view is just breathtaking. There are several stops along the way, in case you want to get out of your vehicle to walk some trails, take some photos, or even have a picnic! I personally suggest going with at least one other person. The reason for this is so you can take more than one drive on the mountain. Sitting driver and sitting passenger are two totally different experiences. When you are driving, you are so focused on the road and the many bikers/joggers, that you miss out on all the beauty that the comes from atop the mountain. So being able to get the full, real experience of Lookout Mountain, sitting passenger is a must!

As a photographer, I love almost all forms of art! So, being able to spend a whole day, walking about the streets of RiNo Murals was very inspiring! To see all the different and creative ways that art can be expressed and displayed is truly beautiful. There is even an interactive map online, so you can see just how many murals are available and as if that wasn’t good enough…behind the murals are actual businesses. Restaurants, bars, clothing stores, tattoo/piercing shops, markets, and so much more.

Another great place to visit is Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater. With the option to tour the land and area, is pretty neat, along with the history behind it. And if you like to hike, the view gets better along with the peace and serenity that comes with it.

A few other places that I easily fell in love with over my trips to Colorado are: Cranelli’s Italian Restaurant (the lasagna is delizioso!), The Whiskey Biscuit, Palma Cigars and Bar Las Palmas, Peak View Brewing Company (flights of 4 is a really great experience to try new and different beer), and Bad-Ass Breakfast Burritos…which is actually inside another restaurant called Dog Haus – all of which have exceptionally tasty food and plentiful servings!

Overall, my experiences with the people I’ve met, the places I’ve visited, and the things I have done while in Colorado, have all been pleasant and I look forward to many more visits!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would first and foremost like to thank my husband, Greg. Ultimately, he is the one who pushed me to follow my passion and love of photography. Without his nudge of encouragement, I would still be working 60+ hours a week, leaving no room for quality time with him or the kids.

Secondly, I would like to give a shoutout and big thanks to my kids and extended family. It has taken many trial and error photoshoots to get me where I am today…and sometimes it was a painstaking process (for everyone involved – haha), but none of it would have been possible without the love and patience of my beloved family.
