We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Frazier, Amber Williams Amber & Amber Co. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber Frazier, Amber Williams, why did you pursue a creative career?
We both started as Holistic Nutrition Therapists. But quickly realized there was a missing link between telling our clients what to do and them not having the time or desire to make food that supported their nutritional needs. Because of this, we were not feeling fulfilled with the hands off approach and hated spending more time on our computers than we wanted. So we decided to provide for clients in a different, more creative and tangible way– by providing healthy food that tastes, looks and makes you feel amazing!

Because of our backgrounds, we are able to cook for clients who have individual dietary needs or are on specific diets like anti-inflammatory, paleo, keto, vegetarian, auto-immune protocols, low histamine, and more! We know exactly what is and isn’t “allowed” on these dietary protocols, and we get to provide food that isn’t boring and tastes delicious. We are well equipped with the knowledge, culinary skills, and ingredient swaps that allow us to recreate versions of client favorite meals. We often receive feedback like “I can’t believe this is healthy.” Which we always take as a job well done.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, we’re “the Ambers”. Yes, we are both really named Amber and we are the two girly-pops behind Amber & Amber Co.– a culinary experience company that provides meal prep, catering services, and private cooking classes.

We set ourselves apart by being true to who we are. We are not just another meal prep company shoveling out food as quickly as possible with only macros in mind. While macros are important, we understand it takes a lot more than that to prepare healthy food that actually tastes good (no baked chicken breast and steamed broccoli here!).

In the health and wellness industry, brand colors are typically light greens, blues, and beige. Like the food we pick, being bright, colorful, and seasonal, we intentionally chose our bright pink, red, and orange colors to match our fun and funky personas along with our fun and funky cuisine.

As a team, we are most excited about getting to support people who are doing great things in a tangible way, making their lives easier while simultaneously supporting their health.

We got to where we are today by going through our own personal health journeys. On a personal level, we had to trust our guts when it came to our own health battles and chose to follow what felt right. While we both went through many difficult processes and protocols to help ourselves, we have chosen to turn our struggles into something greater, which has in turn created a business we love.

Our paths crossed when we were hired around the same time working an 8-5 office job, where we became fast friends while working at our desks. We both discovered we have a lot of similarities along with sharing a name. Some examples of this are: We both have been on restrictive diets, but loved food; both loved to cook and create meals that adhere to our dietary needs and health goals; being tired of feeling left out at get-togethers that revolved around food where we couldn’t participate; knowing how each other worked and knowing we worked well as a team; deciding to create a business that is inclusive of all dietary types and preferences, and with health and nutrition at the forefront of everything we do.

Creating a business is never easy. However, if something feels right, it usually is, even if you have to take a risk. While having your own business in and of itself is hard work, we do try to hedge our bets where we can. But when you are building something of your own, you do have to be brave enough to take the leap.

As a business, nothing has felt extremely difficult so far because we are almost always aligned. The path forward has always been clear, making possibly difficult decisions much easier to make.

We’ve learned important lessons along the way. The main one being you must prioritize your own health and self care. We know that you can’t help others before you help yourself. Each of us do this in different ways; scheduling down time, making sure we get regular workouts in, and yes, we both also cook for ourselves and our partners all the time– even when we’ve already cooked for clients all day. What’s great about working as a team is we really do hold each other accountable to this. We are both much better when our cups are full! And that shows in our work.

Additionally, we firmly believe there’s so much room at the table for more holistic personal chefs in the world. Because personal chefs make such a huge health impact, collaboration over competition is the best mindset in this field. Community is necessary and should be fed and watered.

We want the world to know that we have been in your shoes– feeling like healthy food is boring and lack luster. That’s why we put so much effort and energy into every dish we make and every client we serve. Food is love and brings people together. Everyone deserves a seat at the table and to feel included.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Everyone knows Colorado is a beautiful state. So, we’d love to show our friends the incredible nature here. Before heading to the mountains we’d take them to Wild Pastures in Boulder, CO because we know we can trust their high standards when it comes to ingredients, being grass-fed and 100% seed oil free. On the drive, we stop at Coffee Bean N Bakery, the cutest little mom and pop coffee shop to caffeinate & grab a sweet gluten-free treat for the rest of the trip. Our final destination is Ridgeway, CO where we set up base camp in a cabin so we can spend the rest of the trip adventuring outdoors and cooking together.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We want to dedicate our shoutout to Dianne & Chris Koehler, the owners and masterminds behind Nutrition Therapy Institute (NTI), where we both received our certifications as Nutrition Therapists and Natural Food Chefs. Additionally, NTI is where we met as co-workers in office administration roles. Without them, our paths would never have crossed and our business would not be in existence today.

We thank Dianne & Chris for trusting us as employees, supporting our business, and providing a life-changing education that was pivotal in building something we are so passionate about.
