Meet Amelia Elkins | Private Practice Therapist and Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amelia Elkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amelia, what do you attribute your success to?
While education, specific modalities, and rapport are all highly important for the success of therapy, customer service sticks out at the top for running a brand. I highly value getting back to folks within 24 hours of an inquiry or current client request. Having reliable communication not only demonstrates commitment but also supports the client/therapist relationship. My clients are the most important part of my business and showing up for them consistently demonstrates this.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my career in the non-profit sector, supporting women in Denver County Jail by running therapeutic groups to treat trauma and addiction. This was an extremely rewarding part of my career and shaped the clinical skillset I have today. Eventually, I transitioned to one of Denver’s most reputable private therapy practices where I continued to build my education around anxiety, addiction, and relationships. After six years, I decided I was ready to start my own practice and in 2023 I opened Helm Therapy. The name speaks for itself, as I encourage all of my clients to be leaders in their own life and pave their own path through their strengths. Starting your own practice, while being a mom of two young boys, is not easy but is so rewarding. I’ve learned to create balance, simplify tasks, and make time for what matters most in my business, my clients.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the city of Denver and have lived here for 14 years. I’m also a big foodie and love showing folks around the food scene when they come to visit. My current favorites are Alma Fonda Fina in the highlands and Viet’s off Federal blvd. While different dining scenes, both offer exceptional, creative food. I also love a good latte, so you can find me at Steam off S Pearl in between client sessions.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My clients continue to drive my motivation to not only bring the best tools forward in sessions, but also encourage me to be the most authentic version of myself. Being a therapist doesn’t mean you’re perfect and I’m consistently growing professionally and personally. Working with others means I owe it to them to be aware of my areas of growth and recognize what makes us human.
