We had the good fortune of connecting with Amruta Parmar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amruta, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For those who dont know me, I paint bold, vibrant, colorful and sometimes contemplative abstracts inspired by my spiritual journey, wisdom, insights and life in general, using acrylic paint, lots of gold foil anda hint of glitter!
It reminds me of the light we all share, the radiance in all of us and, also, a reminderthat we are the Light itself, in different forms!!
Starting the art business was not planned. It happened organically over a period of time. I never thought of being a business owner here, and that too as an artist in a new country with no art background?! Not even in my wildest bucket list! I was very intimidated when I moved here 5 years ago.
Marriage brought me to the US. My spiritual journey paved the way for paintings to happen through me. I started painting a few months after I moved to Cincinnati, when I started getting visions in my meditations and an inner voice/urge to make art.
I listened to that whispering voice for I had nothing to do anyway, thinking it will help me pass time and learn something new. I was so naive and uneducated about art, that I brought oil paints by mistake and mixed it with olive oil to paint!
Before I knew what was happening, I would get up and paint after every scripture reading session with our teacher, trying to express a word or a line that stirred something deep within.
A few months later a friend bought my first two paintings. I remember crying the entire day, overwhelmed, shocked, humbled and grateful. Her purchase was pivotal, in me trusting this new gift that had landed in my lap without asking for it.
I knew from the beginning that this Art is not mine. Its the higher intellegence or power, and I am just a conduit for it be manifested. Its stays unshakeable!
The paintings happen through me, using this body mind complex called Amruta.
I never considered myself an artist or a creative person or capable enough to run a business. Its the grace, destiny, god, whatever you want to call it, that makes it happen.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I paint Moments.
Dynamic energy transferred onto static matter. Infinite into finite. Racing monkey mind into quiet brush strokes. Using this body mind complex to transfer the eternal inner beauty into a tangible external piece of art that will make you stop, look and wonder. Maybe smile. or be intrigued. Feel JOY. Happiness. Connection to yourself in a way your mind doesn’t understand but your heart feels it. Its visceral.
It’s not just plain paint and canvas. It’s energy transferred. And that is why some pieces of original art MOVE you. Art from big stores and prints do not have the same energy effect. They may look great. but they are not dynamic in nature. They don’t bring energy that has the ability to move you, stir you within!
Life is very dynamic, and You are made of that life. Original art feels alive because its transferring really energy of that artist onto the canvas. You cannot mass produce or duplicate a real person’s energy through a machine.
What’s sets my art apart is “this body and mind complex called Amruta”. No one else can feel and express what it do. Its unique to this character. But at the same time, i also leave it to the viewer. Because Abstract Art is so subjective, what sets each piece apart is not only that moments energy infused into that piece of art, but also what and how the viewer sees it.
I haven’t gone to art school, or studied art history. So my art may not have what the school teaches technically.. But i know it MOVES people, time and again. i hear them coming back and saying it makes them so happy!
I always prayed to be able to do something that could be spiritual & wellness related. Who knew Being truly Happy is Being Spiritual and the secret to wellness too!
I like to believe that the universe gifted me this wild card and told me to go share JOY with the world. Thats pretty much my mission.
In surrendering fully to life, I found art. Through art I found connection with such wonderful collectors. It is such a blessing to bring a smile and joy to someone’s daily mundane life.
Moving to a new country, in a new season of life, with no art background, I felt like an outsider, alone, a fraud and cuckoo in the head for the longest time.
I had no friends or community, knew nothing about art, leave alone the meaning of abstract art. YouTube and Instagram have been my major teachers and where I found community and taught myself.
Only in the 3rd year of making art and selling, I gained confidence and started feeling like a real artist, started making enough profit to invest into my own business and enough confidence and growth to start a new clean candles business that I launched two months ago.
Something’s I have learnt over the years:
1. You are not a fraud just because you did not learn it in school or don’t have a degree.
2. Show up every day even if it looks like you are talking into the void or if you make no sales for months.
3. You will never be ready, You will never believe yourself. Do it anyway!
4. Others will be inspired by you & it will always surprise and humble you.
5. Don’t do it for the money only. Do it for you. The former makes you do it from lack. The later keeps your going from a place of love and abundance. Let LOVE grow.
6. You will get burnt out, feel lost, and want to give up. Crying, struggles and hardship is part of the process & the journey. It’s not all honky dory as seen on social media. Take a break. Come back again.
7. Invest in professional help, memberships, courses etc. you cannot do everything alone.
8. You will be jealous or competitive of your peers, but at the same time you will be happy for them too. It’s the truth!
you will learn from each other, help each other, and push each other in a Healthy way, even if you have met each other only through social media.
9. Eventually you will learn there are no competitors. There is enough for everyone. This happens in 4/5 th year of business.
10. Serve your community. they will love you for your honesty and authenticity. BE YOU!
11. Care about your customer more than the money. People are looking for deep human connection than just the mere sale.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has been my biggest supporter. I wouldn’t have started this journey without his push and trust in me.
My spiritual teachers and mentors have paved way for this to manifest. Their teachings have helped me heal and in the process have been an inspiration for my art journey. Currently my work is highly influenced by Rupert Spira and Francis Lucille, some of the finest spiritual teachers from the Non-Dual Tradition. It is in their teachings I found deep joy, spiritual freedom and recognition of beauty that moves the soul, and connects you within, with you own being!
I am always striving to bring that non verbal, deep quiet joy, into my art.
My friends who i have met through art, my collectors and everyone who has helped me and my business grow in some or the other way. It’s never a one man show, Its always the community together that uplifts each other in some way.
