We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Zambonin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Entrepreneurship is in my soul! From designing and selling craft kits at markets when I was 8, to running a sandwich/lunch business for truckers as a pre-teen, and everything else in between that lead up to now!
Like a lot of people, I did the 9-5 for a while until one day I realized that the hobby I loved, photography, could actually be a business and career if I wanted it to be. So off I went to college, got an internship-turned-job with a large commercial studio and hit the ground running. But even then, I was still working for other photographers and I knew that as valuable the experience was I needed to be out on my own. So that’s what I did. I’m happy to say I’ve had my own photography business for 10 years and counting and am still loving that decision.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a branding photographer for positive, growth-focused and committed entrepreneurs who know that what they do matters!
I help them find confidence in front of the camera and create images that show their true, authentic self which will connect with their ideal audience.
How I do brand photography is so much more than just a pretty picture – it’s how you convey your values and messaging in an instant through what others see. When we work together we bring your business in front of your clients and customers through branding photos that feel good to you and show your joy + commitment to what you do!
The biggest lesson I’ve learned in having my own business is that it’s super valuable to learn from people a few steps ahead of you and to have the right supportive business people in your circle BUT also keep in mind that you don’t have to follow the “rules” and doing what feels right for you and your business is always better than doing what you think you should or what other people are doing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m a huge believer in community and have found it especially important within our own industries! I wouldn’t be where I am today without the mentorship of Michele Charles Gustafson. She helped me get clear on my purpose and confident it!
