We had the good fortune of connecting with Anastasia Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anastasia, what are you inspired by?
Inspiration is an interesting concept. We speak of it so highly as creatives and we put it on a pedestal. We seek it like an unsatiated and finite resource. In my growth as a creative, I have learned that inspiration is not finite nor is it something I have to chase after. I have found that inspiration is around me, all the time. I write music and poetry about the people who I interact with who are probably my biggest inspirations. My partner in creativity and in love is someone I’ve written a large portion of my poetry about in my most recent collection Poems For An Open Heart. I have written songs about the people who I love, abhor, miss, am confused by, and I am frustrated by. I write about the people I meet in my personal life and also in my professional life as a creative, therapist, and doctoral student. Inspiration is everywhere — our creative job is to find it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was fortunate enough to have a mother who was a trained fine artist and pianist. She exposed me to fine art and began teaching me music before I can remember. My household was a creative one and it was normalized as an important part of our humanity, our identity, and a viable career. My creativity was fostered and supported; never squashed.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would recommend attending a local concert as there are shows happening all the time. I would also recommend checking out the Denver Art Society and other nearby shops and organizations along Santa Fe Avenue which is a prominent arts district in Denver.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother has always prioritized creativity and education. She carries herself with such poise and grace — she has always been a role model for me in all my endeavors. I dedicate this shout out to Elisa Canfield, my dear mother.
