We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Godfrey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I love Teddy Rosevelt’s “Man in the Arena” speech because it means get off your butt and do something if you want a change, instead of sitting around and complaining and watching nothing change.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
One of the most difficult questions we face as we grow older is “do I have enough money to retire?” Because a majority of people in the United States don’t work with a financial advisor, the answer to this question can seem very daunting at times. At Arena Financial Advisors, we strive everyday to help people answer this question, as well as define the amount of risk that is appropriate for their age. I think one of the things that I’m most proud of is that when we put together a financial plan for our clients, it immediately gives them peace of mind and allows them to enjoy their lives and families more fully. I guess the one thing I would want the world to know about my story of survival is that no matter how bad things might appear to be, there’s always a silver lining if you take the time to look for it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would want to ski all four of our wonderful ski areas in Aspen during the week, as well as make a back country excursion to the Pine Creek Cookhouse for lunch or dinner. My other go to restaurants are Zane’s Tavern, the Red Mountain Grill, and the Aspen Elks Lodge #224. Late night is always fun down at the Caribou Club, but you just have to try and not dance too late into the night if you want to get up and ski in the morning.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I survived a plane crash in 1974 at the age of 8 that took the lives of my mother and father, as well as my older brother and sister. My other older brother who was 11 also survived, and the two of us, along with our younger sister, moved in with our aunt and uncle and their 3 kids in Aspen. I couldn’t have made it through that period of my life without the love and compassion they showed us by welcoming us into their family, so I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am today without them
