We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Hanson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work-life balance is a large part of the reason that I am in the line of work that I am in and one of the main factors that has led me to set up my business in the way that I have. I very intentionally set myself up to have the freedom of being self-employed has allowed me to prioritize other aspects of life and other pursuits in the outdoors to whatever degree is calling to me. The icing on the cake is that I get to work with people who share a lot of similar passions and through work have created relationships and opportunities far outside of the world of business. That balance and freedom are so important for me to live the life that makes me excited to wake up every morning with the stoke to go live it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a cinematographer, I care a lot about all of the many technical aspects that go into the art and making a high-level image and product. I work mostly in the Documentary and commercial space which means all of that technical is in support of telling the story of a person, brand, or concept. One of the most important concepts that I continue to learn is just how important the human interactions that occur from initial concepting of an idea all the way to the final edit. The way I carry myself, talk, and connect to others has even more of an impact on the final product as my technical capabilities.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Mike Arzt and The Public Works. They were my first connection to the professional world of film and a vital part of shaping the way I view work, life, and all of the many connections that contribute to those.
