We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
In the beginning of 2022, I was a full-time student who just began touring as a photographer with musicians nationwide. Many doors began to open for my business and I until everything abruptly came to life-changing halt in March of 2022. While touring, I was very sick, but dismissed my health with excuses of being in the cold weather and traveling. I finally scheduled an appointment for a full check up just to essentially prove that I was fine. I walked out of the doctor’s office with a diagnosis of Type II Diabetes at the age of 20 years old. My whole world was turned upside down and I genuinely thought this was the end. I had to not only make complete lifestyle changes, but alter the plans of my business moving forward. I took several months to focus on my health and declined tour offers. It was the hardest challenge to face, but a necessary challenge. Today, I am doing well and starting to plan more concerts to cover with musicians. I came to the realization a few months ago, that I have diabetes, diabetes does not have me and I will continue living my happiest and healthiest life as much as possible.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would have to say I am most proud of continuing my dreams of being a photographer, despite the life-altering diagnosis. Being a full-time student, full-time diabetic, and running a business is not for the weak. I am proud of my resilience for pushing through each day to be the best version of myself that I can possibly be. I feel like that speaks for who I am as not only as a person, but a business owner and photographer as well. I am willing to put in the extra work and go that extra mile. This is not the first challenge I have had to face in life, it certainly will not be the last, but if one thing is certain, I know I have photography and the blessings it comes with.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank Jon Stork for being a great support in my health and business journey, as well as my sister, and close circle of friends. Without them, I would be in a much worse situation, physically and mentally. These amazing people deserve the credit for helping me get through the roughest patch in the beginning and through today.
