We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Seibel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, what are you inspired by?
We live in such a fast paced world with this work-to-succeed and achieve mentality, that we often overlook the small beautiful details in life. Having moved as a child through ten different countries – I often found that it was the small things I missed most about my former homes. The chandeliers in the Moscow metros, the smell of the wharf in downtown Halifax, the taco shop on the street corner in Mexico down the road… things like that. We see the same things every day, but how often do we observe?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started photography when I was In early high school living in El Salvador – I actually bought a camera with Christmas money to become a YouTuber – turns out I was too shy to make and post any content.

However I soon started dabbling with taking photos of anything and anywhere – part of being in a family overseas all the time is you don’t get to share those experiences with others who weren’t there – but you can show them. I started what I categorised as travel photography – whether that be bold landscapes, city architecture, village street photos, or even just small details that caught my eye.

Soon enough I started pursuing it as a hobby, doing little photoshoots of still life or live, and posting it on my Instagram.

Eventually my priorities changed with university and unfortunately I plateaued for a while, but recently I’ve been getting back into photography as it is a way I not only let my creative energy flow, but it’s a way I express myself, my views of the world, and hopefully allow people to understand how I see and think.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Having traveled a significant amount myself both moving and tourism, I like a well rounded exposure – therefore that’s what I like to give.

First off, start with the big ticket items – what’s the place known for? What stands out? Monuments, buildings, landmarks and parks. Go to a few districts, check out some popular restaurants and bars, and definitely hit up the night life.

But in the same token I like to show them the quaint and unique aspects – the hidden treasures, and obviously provide a few fun facts. What’s something that looks normal but has an interesting story behind it? What’s something that is something now but was really something before? I like to really open their eyes and get their mind thinking. That “what!? Really!? Wow that’s so cool” reaction.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, too many people, groups, and organizations to mention. I have had the honour and pleasure of meeting so many creative and talented minds, and had so many people support me along the way through several journies. Whether bad experiences or good, each interaction has shaped and molded me into the person and energy I am
