We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Uribe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wouldn’t say a business more like a community. My thought process was,”shit, where do I begin?”. Then for some reason at 3:345AM I stood up making music and remembered a bar about some name I made up called D!RTBVGCL!QUE (dirt bag clique) and just had a final thought of making a rap group called that. So that inspired me to be more open with people in the community.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So when i first started rapping, I didn’t take it serious. I would just scream nonsense into a microphone then call it cool. Over the course of time I realized that I had a deep passion and love for music. I didn’t stick to just one genre, I’ve tried different styles. When I first started making music my biggest challenge was actually trying to find my voice. By overcoming that challenge I had to just let go of the self doubt. Recently I’ve been making some post punk and indie music and I personally love doing that more. I can express the true emotions I hide from others. Which is why my name is EMPATH. I do my best to create music that speaks to people who can relate. I find it therapeutic and I hope to inspire others to do the same. People are going to judge you regardless and you just have to keep pushing. I want the world to know that you have to start somewhere. even if you don’t where to start, just start. Whether it’s making beats or writing lyrics. Making music has taught me to be patient and not rush things. Great things take time The key is never giving up on yourself, your dreams and goals. Continue to be yourself even if you feel silly at times.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d say the best places to eat are the taco trucks. You can never go wrong with real tacos and tortas. Don’t forget to grab a horchata or a glass bottle of Coca Cola. If tacos aren’t your thing then wing shack will hit the spot.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
