Meet Angela King | Food Truck Owner, Accounting, & Proud Mommy

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Money was behind everything on me wanting to start my own business. I felt hopeless and drove myself into depression. Was I ever going to be successful? How I was going to afford to live the life I want with my big family of 6? How do I make more money? Feeling unhappy and working for someone else was just not for me!
I knew deep down, that instead of sacrificing my brain juice, stress, and tears for a corporation, I should use that energy and knowledge towards my own business. I used to always want to go to college and manage a company, but life taught me that I actually wanted to be an owner instead of a manager. And I wanted to lead my way … with kindness and generosity! And to be happy, cheery, and bubbly the way I WANT TO BE! So that’s why I now will always be a business owner.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m different, because I’m honest, I’m silly, and I’m me. I have a sweets food truck dedicated to providing delicious treats while showing appreciation to First Responders. I believe all heroes deserve our applause, respect, and much more. I highly value kindness and service to my communities and my motto is “Bringing Sweets-N-Smiles wherever we go!
Rewind to how I got started in my food truck journey, I deactivated my social media for about 5 years to work on myself and just got back on in January of 2024. Through those quiet years, I experienced immense grief from losing my best friend, stress from motherhood with 4 kids, felt lost in life, didn’t know what to do career wise, pushed myself through college nervously, experienced financial hardships, worked through marriage struggles and so much more.
On the positive side, I was able to graduate with my BS in Accounting, bought my dream home with the love of my life, got my dream job, had a baby safely through the pandemic, taught myself personal financing, and learned what entrepreneurship is.
Well, last summer in 2023 I was officially diagnosed with severe depression/bipolar disorder and I am still getting medically treated to this day. I’m admitting that the struggle is real, but it’s good to talk about it openly sometimes. I’ve learned that the world is very broken and can feel very dark at times, but I want to do what I can do to keep my little light shining bright. I have learned forgiveness and resilience are key to getting through this life and having deep conversations with others helps with healing tremendously.
I am no longer working my corporate accounting job and am now a full time mommy and business owner. My entrepreneurial journey won’t end here and I know I am am not perfect, but I vow to the world that I will continue to be a giving and Godly business woman.
Life is strange, and I am not sure what will happen in the future, but God is still writing my story and I will continue to embrace this journey.
It’s okay to not be okay sometimes. I hope this will remind some of you today that, I too, am struggling and you are not alone. Stay hopeful and I will keep reminding myself too!
I promise to use my business ‘Emergency Mini Treats’ as a beacon of happiness for spreading joy as I bring ‘Sweets-N-Smiles wherever I go’!
I want others to know, if you are not happy with your current circumstances, you CAN CHANGE IT! I’m willing to put on a Sparky dog mascot costume just to bring smiles to others. I also strive to feature and meet with 1st responders everywhere I go as a way of showing appreciation.
Also, another way I am healing now is through my unofficial nonprofit ‘A Serving Heart’ (see picture for reference). I never knew something as simple as mopping/shining one’s floor can bring so much joy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The cute little mountain towns! So fun and romantic too! Estes Park, CO is a favorite getaway for me! Or Glenwood Springs! So much to do along the I70 corridor! I would stop at every small town and hike as many nature trails as possible, tube along the river and then relax at the natural hot springs! So many yummy restaurants along the way too! There’s a restaurant for everyone! Another shoutout to Boulder, CO too! That’s where the hubby and I went during our dating days!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Ryan, if it weren’t for his persistence during the burning popcorn days of learning how to cook kettle corn, I wouldn’t be here with the entrepreneurial fever that I have today. He helped me believe in myself and that I CAN make a difference in this world. I finally see that anything is possible and we all can provide value to others.
