We had the good fortune of connecting with Angi Beauheim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It’s very important to my husband and I to have careers that we enjoy and feel good about. When we moved to Loveland for his job, social media was becoming less enjoyable so I decided not to try to grow my digital marketing company in a new location – plus I had a two year old and a newborn. I decided that Loveland, an amazing arts community, was a good place to focus on becoming professional artist.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I first started toward being a professional artist, I was trying a little bit of everything. My business coach urged me to focus on one thing for at least six months. I chose watercolors and I’ve found that they offer enough flexibility that I’m never bored. The opportunities to explore are endless.

Cats…in…spaaaaaaace came from months and months of videos watched with my space-loving son. There are so many fun facts that I hear and think “I can paint that.” The cats, well, cats just come naturally. They have fun, goofy personalities and people really relate to the paintings because of them. The combination of cats and space will inspire paintings for years.

While focusing on watercolor, I haven’t been spending much time at my metal bench. I’ve decided to work some jewelry into my Cats…in…spaaaaaaaaace offerings.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d definitely start with a ridiculously large breakfast. Doug’s one day, Loveland Breakfast Club another. Donut Haus for sure.

Then we’d do an art day downtown – stop in to the Loveland Museum, Lincoln Gallery, Independence Gallery, Artworks, Artspace. Then we’d go to Benson Sculpture Garden in the afternoon.

Afternoons would also involve extensive time enjoying coffee and just talking – a treat I relish with two small children. I’ve always wanted to sit at one of the tables in the cute little garden of Jamoka Joe’s and watch the world go by. I like FeelLove, Dark Heart and Colorado Coffee Company. And obviously I could spend a whole day at Noco Cat Cafe.

I’ve also always wanted to spend a day shopping in downtown Loveland. There are so many cute stores that I would love to explore with a friend. And we’d definitely hop up to Earl’s Floral and Gifts – they have the cutest things in there (and now they have a coffee shop, too!).

Beer is a must. Loveland has great breweries and if we had a week we’d try them all.

And then there will be eating! Yes, my whole week with my friend would be eating, drinking and walking. She’d love it. I’d take her to my favorite restaurants – CJs, Black Steer, Daddy O’s Green Onion, Durbar, Old Chicago, Hogfish, Bai Tong. We’d get takeout from The Ball Joint at least once because his grilled cheese balls are to die for.

As teens I used to make my friends drive to the next town over so I could play pinball in the bowling alley, so we’d be sure to stop into The Flipside. As the parents of little kids in a new town we haven’t explored a lot of the night time options, but we do really enjoy Night on the Town. It’s so much fun to stroll around and see the artists drawing on the sidewalk and musicians playing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Nathan, of course deserves a shoutout for being as supportive of my career as I am of his.

As far as growing my business, connecting with the Artists Collective – which merged with Thompson Valley Art League last year – has been very valuable. The monthly meetings have given me a chance to learn all the things I didn’t know I needed to know. And I’ve met a lot of regional artists at all points in their careers, all of whom have taught me valuable things.

When I first moved to Loveland I “liked” every page I could find about Loveland businesses. One of those pages was Amelia Furman Mixed Media. I fell in love with her art. It’s amazing to me that we met through the Collective and have become friends. She’s given me quality advice and perspective.

Amelia also led me to Teresa Haag, who is an artist business coach located in Pennsylvania. Joining her group of artists has moved my business along much faster, in an enjoyable way, than I expected.
