We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Baughman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would say it’s being true to myself. It’s so easy to look at what others are doing and compare. Comparison is what invites discouragement and doubt. Going back to my passion and resisting the temptation to measure it against the passions of others keeps me taking steps forward.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My goal with the ministry offerings is to create an environment where people can see evidence of God at work in the painful places of their lives. I am an abuse survivor, and it took me a long time to realize that people need to see and hear stories of others overcoming difficulties. I’m most proud of how we talk about hard stories, but always in a way that communicates hope and light. Whatever we’ve done or whatever has been done to us does not need to have the last word. We may always struggle to a degree, but we can live powerfully, confidently, and victoriously. That is the message of Steady On.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you visited me in Carbondale, I would take you to see the beauty of the Southern Illinois University campus, perhaps taking in a performance at McLeod Theater or Shryock Auditorium. We would eat pizza at Quatro’s and visit the iconic walk-up Dairy Queen on The Strip. Also, a hike or drive through Giant City State Park would be a must-do.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Matt, deserves all the recognition I can give him. We often joke about how he married me for my “earning potential” and has been seriously underwhelmed by the outcome. Being married to someone in ministry means a lot of sacrifices, and he never wavers in his commitment to doing all he can to support me in my calling.
