We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna DeHamer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anna, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want my legacy to be reflected in the impact that I made on female basketball players and how I empowered them to be not only brave and confident hoopers but also human beings. Being a girl is hard in this world and I am just trying to be a positive light for the girls that I work with. When these girls are adults and they look back over their life, I want to be someone they remember who empowered them to be themselves and to be bold leaders in whatever they do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hi! My name is Anna DeHamer and I am the CEO of Hammer Basketball and head basketball trainer. I specialize in training female post players and I love what I do! Essentially what got me to where I am today professionally is I looked around in my industry of basketball training and noticed gaps and missing pieces that weren’t being filled for not only post players but for female basketball players. Post players are not getting the attention and development they need to be successful on the basketball court so I took it upon myself to figure out a solution. I played the post position in my own career so who better to take on this challenge than me! Thus was born my niche of becoming a post player trainer and my passion is helping empower girls to be confident in who they are and helping them develop leadership skills on the court and in their lives. This road has not been easy as my industry is mostly made up of male trainers so I feel I have really been paving my own way for these girls. There has been many bumps along the way and many learning moments but through it all, I still feel confident this is my calling. I have learned that when life knocks you down, you get back up no matter how many times you get knocked down. Just as a sword is forged by a blacksmith, we too are forged, molded, and refined by our experiences and that is what makes us who we are. I have learned that choosing the road of entrepreneurship is never easy, but very rewarding in many ways. Lastly, being a mentor for females hoopers is what gets me so excited about what I get to do every day and what I am most proud of in what I have built so far with Hammer Basketball in my professional career.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting me in Colorado, I would definitely spend the majority of the time in the mountains visiting some fun mountain towns like Estes Park, Breckenridge, or Veil. We would do some shopping in the to support the small town businesses, eat at unique mountain town restaurants, and get some yummy ice cream at the local ice cream shops. Depending on what time of year, we may try to catch a Nuggets, Rockies, or Avalanche game in downtown Denver as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my family, especially my husband, who is my daily cheerleader and encourager. I also want to shoutout my best friend Brittany Bailey who inspires me to keep going and helps me focus on why I do what I do.
