We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Rudz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anna, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always been drawn to the world of drawing. For me, it goes far beyond just a hobby; it’s a vital form of expression that allows me to channel my deepest emotions, thoughts, and feelings onto a blank page. Whenever I read a book, I can’t help but imagine the characters coming to life in my mind, envisioning their expressions, the details of their clothes, and the surrounding world they live in. This creative spark is what drives me to bring those imagined scenes and characters to paper, with the hope of inspiring others through the worlds I create.

Drawing, for me, is much more than simply creating images – it’s my way of communicating with the world. Every stroke of my pencil or brush is an opportunity to add a piece of my own perspective, to breathe life into the characters I illustrate, and to make them feel as if they could walk right off the page. I absolutely love how illustrations have the power to capture the essence of a book – its atmosphere, its emotions – and to help readers experience the very feelings the author intended. It’s a unique form of connection that, for me, goes beyond just visual art.

Illustrating book characters is far more than a job or task – it’s a true joy for me, and it combines two of my greatest passions: the love I have for art and my love for books. Each illustration is an opportunity to weave these two elements together, creating something beautiful that not only reflects my artistic vision but also enhances the world of the story being told. This is what truly excites me about being an illustrator. It’s a way to contribute to the storytelling experience in a meaningful, personal way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a professional artist with a degree in fine arts, graduating with honors from both art school and university. I continue to grow in my field, always learning, exploring new techniques, and seeking inspiration.

Every artist sees the world differently, and this diversity of perspectives is what makes creativity so special. But it hasn’t been an easy journey. I’ve faced bullying, stress, and now, the reality of war in Ukraine. I work with explosions going off in the background, but I push forward with hope, belief in myself, and the support of my loved ones. Their encouragement helps me through even the toughest moments.

On top of everything else, there’s another challenge artists are dealing with these days. AI-generated images have flooded the internet, making it harder for artists to find work. Many people turn to AI because it’s convenient and cheap, rather than investing in human-made art. To highlight the value of true creativity, I make sure to share videos and photos of my painting process, and I always strive to give each client a personalized approach. Art is more than just an image – it carries emotions, meaning, and the artist’s soul, something no algorithm can replicate.

Despite all these challenges, I’m proud to share my art and inspire others to find beauty, even in difficult times.
Art has the power to heal, unite, and bring hope.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Poltava is a city rich in history and culture, known for its beautiful parks, historical landmarks, and warm atmosphere. It’s a place where tradition and modernity meet, offering visitors a unique glimpse into Ukrainian heritage.

If my best friend were visiting Poltava, I’d take them to Ivan Kotliarevskyi’s House Museum to explore Ukrainian literature, then we’d relax in Central Park. A stop at Poltava Regional Museum would give us insight into the city’s history, and we’d try local dishes at Halushka restaurant. For a wonderful view, we’d visit The White Arbor and unwind at Cafe Kavun.

Poltava offers a great blend of history, culture, and local flavors!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to a few special people who’ve helped me get to where I am today. First, to my amazing husband, who supports me in everything I do. His belief in me, patience, and love keep me going, no matter what challenges I face.

Next, I have to thank my family – my mom and older sister. Their constant love and support are the foundation I’ve built everything on. I wouldn’t be who I am without them.

And of course, my best friend Sofia deserves a shoutout too. She’s always been there for me, cheering me on and helping me find strength when I needed it most.

Lastly, I want to thank my teachers from art school. They guided me, helped me grow, and taught me to truly appreciate art. I wouldn’t be where I am without them either.
