We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Mailhot and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anne, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have been practicing in medicine as a PA for about 8 years. In 2020 I started spending more time doing art, which quickly led to the selling of my art and the formation of my art business. First through acquaintances, and then through art shows and galleries. This creative outlet gave me a sense of freedom and peace away from medicine. In this journey, I leaned into finding a way to combine my artistic nature and creativity with my love for medicine and oncology. In 2023, I launched my own medical aesthetics practice with an emphasis on the art of medicine, facial aesthetics, wellness, and the aesthetic restoration of the cancer survivor. I wanted to create a space to not only allow myself to treat people as I envision, but to welcome a neglected population into the aesthetic realm, the cancer survivor. After practicing the majority of my career in oncology, I often encountered people feeling very self conscious about their appearance from these albeit life saving, but harsh treatments. They had guilt about sharing their aesthetic concerns in the face of surviving a lethal disease. This Restorative Oncology space would provide a sanctuary for this patient and their concerns, while offering a comprehensive knowledge of their diagnosis and recovery. Through my love of art and my passion for medicine, Muse Medical Artistry was born.
What should our readers know about your business?
In 2023, Muse Medical Artistry was founded. As a professional artist and physician assistant, I wanted to build a practice that would reflect my love for art and the importance of integrating this with medicine. It would come with a great deal of sacrifice, starting with my full time job as an oncology PA. I transitioned to half time which meant less income and losing benefits for my family, but I knew that’s what needed to happen to move this concept forward. I invested the majority of my time and funding into training and education to grow my skills as an aesthetic provider, which allowed me to gain the trust of incoming clientele through exceptional results, and in turn momentum of my business.
I truly believe that my personal and professional life aligned for the creation of this practice. Humbled and inspired by my cancer patients over the years, I recognized a need, and an opportunity to foster my creativity. I never imagined I would become an entrepreneur, and sometimes still question if I have the grit to keep pushing forward, but know that these two loves of art and medicine have finally come together for a purpose. Additionally, my daughters are seeing what it means to pursue a dream, and to witness how hard work pays off.
At this time, I am in the process of building out a new and bigger location which will allow me to carry out another signature aspect of my business, artwork. I will display local artists’ artwork throughout the space, available for purchase. Additionally, I plan to host art nights for people to enjoy the artwork in a gallery-like fashion.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hands down, we have to see a show at Red Rocks. That is a one of a kind experience that everyone should have.
We would have to eat at Blue Pan Pizza, one of my favorites!
A trip to Steamboat would be on the agenda to go hiking, and swim in the hot springs! Definitely dinner at Laundry Kitchen, some of the best food I’ve ever had.
I haven’t been to Meow Wolf yet so I’d definitely want to get that in as well.
I’m sure I’m forgetting something awesome.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe credit to my husband, for always supporting my relentlessness in asking for more from my life and my career. He has fully supported and encouraged every endeavor I’ve pursued, which has not always been easy on our family. He deserves a big thank you for standing with me through it all.
