We had the good fortune of connecting with Ariana Ischay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ariana, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The thought that living life is risky business in and of itself is pretty common. It’s something I’ve inherently felt since a young age. I’ve also believed that the risky life is the only one worth living. Im not a base jumper and I don’t scuba dive with sharks, but I have always gone against the grain of convention which in this society is deemed risky. Risk has always gone hand in hand with the biggest blessings of my life as well. I jump with out a chute. I move on a wing and a prayer always keeping goodness and God at the forefront of my mind. If I hadn’t taken risks, I would have never moved to Hawaii with nothing but a backpack in my 20’s. I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet my husband. I would not have birthed both my beautiful baby boys at home and when a pandemic descended upon the world- I would not have taken the risk to uproot everything and move to the beautiful state of Colorado with my family to see what could be in store.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Creativity can feel daunting in this world where there is so much to compete with. I want to inspire those that have something to offer- because they love to do it- to put blinders on when it comes to “follows” “likes” and “shares”. Create what you love to create because it is something special to you, and wether it impacts the globe, your state, your city or your close network of friend and family, it still has meaning and is worth being brought into this world. Your creativity is an extension of what God blessed you with, and to be aligned with your purpose and in the light, it becomes your duty to bring it forth.
As a mom with a full time position, I cherish my creative time which I express through beadwork. What flows from me during those hours when I sit before my beads, my needle and my thread is precious. When I’m creating beaded earrings and jewelry I have that opportunity to give thanks to the people that taught me these skills as well as to meditate and pray on the good things in life. My wish is that these good feelings are expressed by the patterns and colors I create with my beads and that when they are purchased, the wearer gets to feel as good as I do.
I’ve been creating and selling my work through the name in Walk In Beauty Boutique (mostly on Instagram), while bartending and working for an amazing place that places value on health and wellness.
Do I want my creative endeavors to ever become my full time passion project? That is hard to say. I love the joy that making jewelry brings to my life. I love watching people brighten up when they receive their custom pieces. Perhaps, if Walk In Beauty Boutique were to become my sole income, I’d have other feeling attached to it and lose the blessings it already brings.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
What’s not to love about Colorado? From pristine mountain peaks and Douglas Firs to mesa tops and sage brush, Colorado has top notch natural beauty for days. My family and I live in the beautiful southwest part of the state. We love taking friends and family to explore places like Pagosa Hot Springs, Navajo Lake, Lake Nighthorse and Williams Resevior. Paddle boarding is a must. Train rides to Silverton and skiing Wolf Creek. Downtown Durango also has a little bit of everything for everyone!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A shout out to Pagosa Springs Resort and Spa for being an amazing place to settle into in Southwest Colorado. I’ve been blessed to work there for two years now- and the company, my coworkers and the clients have helped make this new state truly feel like home.
