We had the good fortune of connecting with Arthur Lujan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arthur, what matters most to you?
The most important value to us at Montrose BJJ is commitment. Commitment from us as the Coaches and Owners to show up each class and provide the best knowledge and instruction that we can and commitment from our students to come and give their best efforts.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We started MBJJ from the ground up, from our home garage. We are most proud that we are going on our 6th year of business and continue to grow. We really sacrificed so much of our free time but it’s filled with being able to coach and train something that’s a huge part of our lives and lifestyle. We’ve overcome challenges and obstacles by always staying true to our beliefs that Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone, we want all to feel welcomed and comfortable. We want the world to know that hard works pays off, if you really have a dream to build something keep at it! We’ve had days of one person showing up to class, months of no growth, to having full mats every class.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our favorite spot in the area to walk around is Main Street; you can pop into all the little shops downtown. We love grabbing a pizza at Colorado Boy or just across town is our favorite Trattoria de Sophia Italian food. We love visiting Ouray Hot Springs and going to Maggies for an amazing burger or even just to Ridgway for a day of hanging at the lake and then stopping into town for Tacos del Gnar.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A shoutout to our loyal students that have been with us since day one when we started in our home garage. Their commitment and loyalty to us and learning BJJ is what has made our BJJ family so strong.
