We had the good fortune of connecting with Aryn Schlichting and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aryn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am a Human Resource professional who has been living and working in Vail, CO for 20 year. I saw a major problem in our mountain communities and I wanted to help solve this problem.

First, employers in our towns have a hard time finding good talent because they’re so remote and unique. And second, professionals struggled to live in the mountains because of the cost of living and the types of professional opportunities available. That’s when I came up with the idea for Mountaincareers.com! I knew that there were smart, driven people living in the mountains (because I was surrounded by them at my kids school, at my office and in my community). As a recruiter, I also so salary increases and watching start-up and businesses growing in the mountains.

So I started website that connects employers and job seekers in mountain towns. By bringing everything together in one place, we’ve been able to solve both of these problems.

Now, employers can find top-notch talent from a pool or people who love living in the mountains, and professionals can discover awesome career opportunities in the beautiful mountains. It’s been amazing to see how our platform is boosting the local economy and making life better for everyone involved.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started Mountain Careers 7 years ago and have used speaking opportunities, blogs and growing my personal network as a way to grow the business. To date we reach over 25,000 subscribers across all of our platforms. We send our a weekly newsletter with new jobs posted daily and travel around mountain towns talking about workforce issues in the mountains.

Through Mountain Careers, I successfully connected countless professionals with their dream jobs in the mountains. I helped tapped into the hidden talent pool, showcasing the incredible career opportunities available in these breathtaking locales. Professionals who believed that combining their passion for the mountains with a fulfilling career was impossible found hope and inspiration through my platform.

Over the last few years the market has changed rapidly in mountain towns around jobs and housing. Requiring Mountain Careers to pivot to meet the changing needs. Additionally, mountain towns are very ‘localized’ meaning that you must build relationships locally to really get traction in each community. This approach takes time.

Through Mountain Careers, I changed the narrative about living and working in the mountains. I proved that remote locations are filled with incredible opportunities, and professionals can find fulfillment in their careers while surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty.

My journey serves as a reminder that with passion, personal lived experience, and a belief in your ideas, we can create positive change and inspire others to believe in their own abilities.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love helping people create a great trip to Vail, CO! If you were visiting Vail I would recommend the following:

– Ski day on Vail mountain followed by Apres drinks at Root & Flower (local wine bar owned by a wonderful young entrepreneur) and Fondu for dinner.

– Snowshoeing or hiking at Meadow Mountain. breakfast in Minturn, CO at Sunrise and a coffee at Hygge Life.

There is also so much to do just by walking around and shopping in Vail for the day. You can start off with a spa day at Gravity Haus (cold plunge and sauna) and walk around. Afternoon drinks at Chasing Rabbits arcade of bowling at the fancy Bol is always a hit!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
