We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashlee Spencer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashlee, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Putting myself first. In the last 6 months I’ve made it my mission to reflect on my professional life since college (workforce and entrepreneurship). I made decisions for myself going forward that would make me happiest, in the long run. $100 now means nothing if it adds to burnout and time is priceless. I set boundaries with my clients, learned the word no and fill my days with things that serve me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Something I’ve said since I decided I wanted to capture images as an art form is – I shoot what I would want to receive, That has kept me on a narrow trajectory that I can stand behind 100%. This keeps me in check with clients too, I always have direct and honest conversations with them about my vision and process because the product and experience I strive to provide is true to me. I am proud of how far this mindset has taken me and the ease at which it has carried my business. Challenges came but sticking to this got me through them. Find your why and the rest will follow.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am not from the area but as a photographer who visits once a year I would highly suggest Estes park!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Every business professional, photographer and videographer that put themselves out there, not only on Instagram, but YouTube. I owe you everything. Even if I didn’t directly learn from you, the environment that is free education was integral to not only my growth but my CONFIDENCE. Thank you.
