We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Morgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, how does your business help the community?
The work I make is provocative. It confronts social issues from a feminist perspective and allows for conversations surrounding things like sexuality, mental health, and emotional wellbeing. The goal I have with my work is to empower, center, and uplift women while also portraying my own experiences with expressing femininity in the confines of the social norm.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work challenges viewers to look at their own experiences with internalized systems of oppression and experiences with mental health. I graduated from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in august of 2023, which allowed me to gain my start in the art world. However, breaking out in the art world with the work I make is anything but easy. My work is confrontational at times and even difficult. That being said, I love making it and I believe what I create is important. I’m lucky to have made the friends and connections I have made in college, and I’m lucky to have the wonderful support system I have. What I’d like the world to know about my work is that I am not a “shock factor artist” despite my work being “shocking.” Being a woman in any field is often learning to navigate being “adaptable” or learning how to be palatable with your expression, I want to destroy this narrative entirely.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Mercury cafe is a wonderful place to visit if you’re looking for poetry nights, a good coffee, or even a quick drink at the bar. As for the galleries, the Santa Fe art walk every first Friday of the month is the place to be. I cannot recommend a specific gallery, but I love the entire street for this reason. First Friday opportunities are amazing for being a breakout artist, or finding one you will enjoy!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
