We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashton Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashton, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Don’t get caught up chasing perfection at the expense of progress.
I’m sure many of us can relate to the sentiments behind this saying. As a creative person, I often find myself striving for excellence and battling my inner critic’s aversion to mediocrity.
However, it’s important to strike a balance, just as this phrase suggests. I like to ask myself the following:
What are the expectations of the people I’m working for (their goals and desired outcomes)?
By aligning yourself with the client, you not only move the project forward but you also find contentment with the end result. This doesn’t mean compromising; it means skillfully navigating the project to meet your client’s needs.
It’s worth reminding yourself, the client is the ultimate focus of your efforts. If your client is pleased, it’s a win-win situation, and you should be too!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m originally from Southern California… big shout out to the Inland Empire! I made a move to Colorado back in 2010, all in pursuit of a different way of life. I went on this journey without any set plans, fully aware that without taking risks, there’s no reward. Fast forward thirteen years, I find myself enjoying life with my incredible wife, Cyndi, our cat Winter, and our two French bulldogs, Jaxson and Huxley. I feel blessed and fortunate to be surrounded by such beautiful, charming, and joyful souls.
With over 16 years of experience under my belt, I’ve developed a passion for every aspect of design. Although my primary focus has centered on brand identity, print design and photography, I’m always excited about exploring new opportunities.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
What’s Denver without sports?! HUGE emphasis on experiencing the Mile High City through it’s teams:
– Denver Broncos
– Colorado Avalanche
– Colorado Rapids (I’m a season ticket holder)
– Colorado Rockies
– Denver Nuggets
I’m also a foodie and recommend the following spots for a bite:
– Chianti Ristorante Italiano: Best kept secret for awhile, I may regret sharing!
– Benedict’s Restaurant: Very casual place with great brunch options, their bloody Mary’s are underrated by the way!
– Fritangas Mexican Restaurant: Coming from California, I struggle finding what I consider great Mexican food. You 100% won’t regret trying this place!
– Pearl of Siam: If you love real Thai food, this is a must!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out some truly incredible individuals who helped shape my journey.
First and foremost, my rock and life partner, Cyndi. Through our shared experiences and unwavering support, we’ve not only grown together but also inspired each other to evolve. Cyndi, your ability to push me beyond my comfort zone has sculpted a better version of myself.
Next, my family, with a special nod to my grandparents and brothers.
To my friends, you know who you are. Your presence in my life has been a source of strength and inspiration.
Last but certainly not least, my remarkable leaders and colleagues: Holly Young, Megan Zuazua, Ben Nightingale, Lee Collins, and Corinne Washington. Your guidance, collaboration, and camaraderie have been invaluable.
