We had the good fortune of connecting with Aspen Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aspen, what inspires you?
I am inspired by the generations after me! I think it’s really important to pour positive reinforcement into them as they will hold the seats to some of our most important careers in America. We need to make sure we are in full support of them, especially our young black and brown!
What should our readers know about your business?
Here at The Lounge we specialize in assisting the Black and Brown Community with Academic and Life Excellence. In school I believe they teach us how to be the best employee, rather than to really shoot for the stars and we can be anything in life! From experience i have witnessed the bullying of teachers actually and the discouragement they put in students regarding their dreams if it has nothing to do with going to college. That is where we come in, we become the safe space for ages 7-20 to come and get the care and support they deserve. Not only with their Academics but especially with just their life. I got in the position from much hard work, dedication and consistency. No one cares what you say unless you’ve said it 1,000 times. So I knew I had to stay with this but it was easy to because I am very passionate about it. Overcoming challenges was simple because I had a great team behind me to help! I’ve learned so much with this. Since I did everything for this business from scratch and no assistance; it instilled a work habit and GRIT that I can never get over. I’ve learned how to become strong within myself and let no one get in the way of what I do! I want the world to know I care and that The Lounge is a place for people to come and feel safe and cared for! I will never stop fighting for our youth!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In the morning we obviously have to go to breakfast! I’d take them to waffle brothers or Syrup and then after that I’d take them on a tour of Denver and we’d walk the 16th street mall. After we’d hit up Boulder and the FlatIrons for a bit of shopping and Lunch at South Mouth in Boulder. After that we may take a hike or go to a couple of Adult bars or so in Boulder! Than after that we’d come down to the city to see it light up at night!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother. When I was in high school she started diving into her passion for working for herself while hitting a goal to assist the community. She inspired me to never give up on my dreams and that it is never too late to start your dreams. This hit me hard and got me thinking about my goals and what I want to do. When I was age 18 is when The Lounge was birthed.
