We had the good fortune of connecting with Beau Autin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beau, what matters most to you?
The most important principle for me as a live performer has been listening to the audience. When I first started out in 2016, my let list was a mere 50 songs, and I learned through feeling out the crowd each time and asking about their favorite artists what songs to add, little by little. Now that the set list has grown to over 10 times that amount, I can usually walk into a venue and know which tunes I’m going to pull from there to fit the mood of the people sitting in the chairs.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love keeping variety going in my shows. It’s my ultimate goal, above all, to surprise the audience with whatever comes next. I’ll ease them in with a “Landslide”, then out of nowhere, “Truth Hurts”, then a country classic like “Neon Moon”, then a loop cover of “Believer”. Usually my first 30 minute portion of every show is a demo like this where I give the audience a variety of samples, then open up the floor for song requests.

My saving grace with this has been having a physical song request book they can flip through, vs. verbally going “Hey do you know this?” No? What about this?”. Of course, the off-the-cuff requests happen sometimes and I’ll attempt them, but that way they can get the full menu laid out in front of them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
You can’t go wrong with a night out in Deep Ellum, then Oaklawn Avenue the next day for Brunch at Saint Ann (my personal favorite!).

Toyota Music Factory in Las Colinas is a great Friday night drink spot. There’s bars and eateries all around and even a lawn area with a live music stage where a band will usually be playing.

On the flipside, downtown Fort Worth is worth a day’s visit as well; tons of bars and rooftop restaurants; you could walk in at any one of them and have a good time!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am actually fairly new to the scene in Dallas, and coming fresh off of a musical hiatus, having moved here from Louisiana for auxillary work in tax accounting after COVID put a hold on music performing in 2020.

For me, my musical love affair in this city really took off in July once I joined the Turtle Creek Chorale. My very first concert, a 70’s music tribute, I had the opportunity to sing “Imagine” as a soloist with the full choir singing along at my back. At the end of that number, I walked off stage with tears in my eyes greeted by tight hugs from members. It was the first time since 2020 I really got the chance to perform again.

This almost-300 group of musicians has showed me what it is to be part of a community and feel the pulse of music once again.
