We had the good fortune of connecting with Becky Clabaugh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Becky, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Covid triggered my thought process to start my own business.
I have an invisible health challenge called Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (lim-FAN-je-o-LI-o-MI-o-ma-TO-sis). It is a rare lung disease that usually strikes women during the prime of their lives. By the grace of God, I manage just fine compared to many women who have this disease. The thought of dealing with an uncertain pandemic attacking my respiratory system felt like a cattle prod striking my nervous system. Every time I thought about it or heard something about it I would get triggered emotionally and it felt hopeless. So, I decided to do something productive with my circumstance instead.
I have over three decades of experience facilitating personal development programs, I have a degree in human services and I have been a certified life coach since 2011. It is my nature to want to help people, that’s just how I roll.
Covid naturally opened the door for me to hold space for people navigating an uncertain time. I found multiple opportunities to serve wherever I could online and I was happy to help.
Shortly after I realized Covid was going to stick around, I registered my LLC and I officially opened my doors for business as a general life coach and I never looked back. Best decision ever! It just keeps getting better and better.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve always been a personal development junkie. My degree is in human services and cheering others on has always been my nature.
I am most proud of my family. I’ve been married to my husband Chris for over twenty-three years now. We have three amazing adult children and they are my joy. Anything and everything about them lights me up. I had the privilege to be a stay-at-home mom and sincerely enjoyed being a “professional volunteer” during that time. I served in multiple organizations in our community which has helped me get where I am today. Serving where I can, being a straight shooter, and loving people hard. That’s what I’m best at.
Now, I am in the business of teaching people how to be sold on themself.
When I am coaching, I lean on my experience as an expert in emotional intelligence combined with a proven marketing system I teach. I created a signature program to help my clients close transactions consistently even when they “think” they hate marketing and sales.
The thing that sets me apart is my razor-sharp intuition that allows me to help my clients craft a unique and customized marketing strategy, somewhat like a thumbprint. My aim is to help agents become mini-celebrities, industry experts, and authorities in their industry while serving people well and building a lifestyle business they truly love.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I am a terrible person to ask… It’s kind of embarrassing because I am a native!
I would take her to the farmers market in Monument and then bring her back here to fire up my kitchen! I’m a really good cook.
We are hikers so I would definitely take her on my favorite trails somewhere between Castle Rock, Black Forest, the United States Air Force Academy, and all of the west side. Of course, we would end up at the Broadmoor hotel to get dressed up for dinner and drinks.
I’m super simple. I love the outdoors and fancy things once in a while. Most of all, I genuinely like connecting with people and being right in the moment.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give a Shoutout to my parents.
I watched them create a country club lifestyle with two high school diplomas. My dad sold corrugated packaging and my mom sold real estate. They were kinda cute. My dad used to say, “I sell empty boxes and she sells empty houses.” They worked a room like no other by building deep and meaningful relationships everywhere they went.
Unfortunately, at the age of 47, while traveling on a business trip, my father was killed in a car accident. My mom was only 45. She is my inspiration. She continued to sell empty houses and consistently closed multiple-figure deals as a high-achieving award-winning badass. She still enjoys a country club lifestyle at the age of 77.
My mom is one of the reasons why I do what I do. I help results-driven real estate agents consistently close transactions and I love it. I love it because I understand the financial opportunities real estate and entrepreneurship can provide people, especially when they have the right mindset and strategic marketing tools in place.
