We had the good fortune of connecting with Becky Magnotta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Becky, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was first coached 12 years ago, and immediately knew I wanted to support others like my coach supported me. I put the pieces together to complete a training program, get certified, and then to make Homestead Coaching and Consulting, LLC a reality.

I spent time determining my niche. It would be business oriented since I had many years of experience working in my family’s business, Homestead House, and Chevron and DISH Network. Since most of my experience was as a senior manager/executive, and coaching and developing leaders at this level, I realized it was my tribe and an audience that I wanted to support.

The next hurdle was determining how to actually start, and get in touch with my tribe? I talked to lots of coaches and got advice to start small and grow organically, which worked great. I received a contract to build a leadership development program for a small company which gave me the capital to keep going over the first year. I also kept improving my use of LinkedIn to reach out to potential clients who helped me get started.

Finally, growing up in a family-owned business, and having experience in accounting, finance, marketing and sales helped me create a solid structure for knowing how I wanted to set goals and determine if my business is successful.

Moving forward I know we all need to continue to learn, unlearn and relearn to be successful, and this is a what I continuously do and what I help my clients do.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Homestead Coaching provides coaching for individuals and teams, and also facilitates Positive Intelligence programs.
What sets me apart is that I have deep experience in the corporate world, and understand the issues senior leaders and executives face. I’m consistent in who I am, and Homestead Coaching is me, and how I show up. This is also mirrors how I coach.

The challenges I’ve had to overcome were more in my corporate life, before I started my business. I was coached when I hit a wall. After years of being considered high-potential, I had a executive who wanted me fired or demoted.
Because of this, I really doubted myself and questioned my abilities. With the help of a coach I regained my belief in myself, clarify what my values were, and understand my strengths, and how I can leverage my strengths to be successful. This experience taught me resilience, and how important your mind set and self talk is.

I think of coaching as a three-legged stool – what are your values, strengths and how do you get in your way (your saboteurs). I use these to help my clients understand themselves and how to move forward.

My values are community, joy and curiosity which I bring into everything I do. For Homestead Coaching this means to build great leaders who create great places to work. I’m curious to know about my clients and their business, and I bring a range of deepness and also a lightness as needed for each client and each conversation.

My Strength Finder top strengths are Learner, Achiever, Woo, Positivity and Input. This means that I bring my vast learning and curiosity in a positive way to support my clients achieve their goals. I’m good at noticing and providing input that helps them clarify the way the think.

This last year I became a Positive Intelligence certified coach which has helped me identify and lessen how I judge myself and others, and how I can leverage the achiever, and more in a positive way. It also gives me a strong framework to help individuals and teams clarify how they get in their way, and find more positive ways to think and be.

The tagline of my company is Clarity to Climb. I help clients get clear on their goal and get un-muddled so they have a clear idea of where they need to go, and what they need to do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If it was a week long, it would be a combination of sharing our great museums, a day in the mountains hiking, a day golfing at Fox Hollow, and some time exploring some of my favorite parts of the area like downtown Littleton and Boulder. I’d also want to go to lots of different ethnic restaurants like The African Grill and Sherpa House. I’d wrap it up with an evening of laughter and music with my brothers and their families.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is a Shoutout to all the great teachers I’ve had along the way, including Micki McMillan, MCC and Pat Barlow, MCC at Blue Mesa Coaching in Ft. Collins, Zora Boas, MCC of Boas Partners and LifeDance, and the many International Coaching Federation members and employees.
